Meet Luke Tanner from Aleah Barley’s Leaving Las Vegas

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Good morning, Luke! Can you please describe yourself in five words or less.

[Luke Tanner]  Casino developer and owner, Glory’s man

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share a typical day in the life of Luke Tanner?

[Luke Tanner]  Wake up next to my beautiful fiancé, either in my Las Vegas condo or the home we share in West Virginia. I like to play hard, but I also like to work hard. I inherited a single shabby hotel from my father and turned it into a casino empire with multiple first class establishments around the country. I’m used to being in charge, but since I met Glory I’ve been trying to delegate more… so I can spend more time loving her the way she deserves. Repeatedly. All night long.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words come to mind when you think of Glory?

[Luke Tanner]  Sexy, smart… Chuckles. Sorry, it’s hard to come up with just three words. Unpredictable. She’s definitely unpredictable. I never know what she’s going to do next, whether it’s skinny dipping in Black Lake or coming home early from work with an apple pie.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you find most exasperating about her?

[Luke Tanner]  I told you she’s unpredictable, right? Take our road trip–Las Vegas to West Virginia with thugs on our tail–if she wasn’t making out with me on the hood of my car then she was jumping out a bathroom window.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could change one thing you’ve done in your life, what would it be?

[Luke Tanner]  When I first met Glory, I accused her of cheating at cards. I was right. Still, it didn’t make the best first impression. If I could change anything, I’d go back to that moment and tell her that she was a smart, beautiful, capable woman… who cheated at cards.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?

[Luke Tanner]  A sexy car. During our road trip, we took my Aston Martin. These days, I leave the Aston Martin in Las Vegas with the rest of my collection. When I’m in West Virginia, I drive a classic Mustang. All-American muscle.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t running from the mafia?

[Luke Tanner]  Like I said, I work hard and I play hard. For me, that means driving fast cars, showing up to my weekly poker game, and making love to my gorgeous fiancé on the banks of Black Lake. Since I moved to West Virginia, I’m also learning how to fish. It’s surprisingly relaxing.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share your dreams for the future in five words or less.

[Luke Tanner]  Marriage, kids, and wild adventures.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

About the book:

A private poker game with her dreams at stake. And West Virginia wild child, Glory Allen loses it all. To make matters worse, she’s trapped in a car with the sexy man who won—the infuriating man who accused her of cheating. And now she’s on the run—with him—from the mafia who’s apparently put a hit out on the stuck-up casino magnate with the toe-curling good looks who isn’t exactly her type. So why can’t she cool the explosive chemistry between them?

She’s out of control…and she’s enough to drive Luke Tanner crazy. Yet when it comes down to it, she’s the only one to put her neck on the line…for him—a complete stranger she professes to hate. Now he’s in debt…to her. And it’s a debt he’s willing to work off anyway she wants…on the hood of his sports car, in a waterfall—wherever she’ll have him, he’s willing to pay the price.

But the stakes are raised when they return to West Virginia—helping Luke escape has put Glory and her hometown in the sites of someone who wants him dead. This time Glory decides she’s not going to end up empty-handed—it’s time for the winner to take all and she won’t stop til she wins his heart.

About the Author:

Aleah Barley is a writer of funny (she hopes) contemporary romance novels. After recently moving to Detroit, she would like everyone to know that the rumors are true: it is a post-apocalyptic wasteland full of abandoned buildings, zombies, and hipster coffee shops that don’t open before nine in the morning. It’s also a great place to live. Really. Promise. She spends her days working hard to make the world a better place and her nights writing about kick-ass women who live life to the fullest and the men who love them.

She’ll do anything for a box of chocolates. Or ice cream. Seriously. Try her.
