Interview with Theresa Meyers, Author of The Switched Baby Scandal and Giveaway!

Please give Theresa Meyers a warm welcome! Theresa is returning to the virtual offices to discuss her latest release, The Switched Baby Scandal.  This is an Entangled Publishing release under their Bliss imprint.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.

[Theresa Meyers] Former book publicist, multi-pubbed novelist, national speaker, avid reader, Creative Badass, writing paranormals, romance, steampunk and YA.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about The Switched Baby Scandal?

[Theresa Meyers] What if you found out the child you’d raised for the last five years wasn’t yours? Worse still, what if you found out the biological parent wanted your child back? THE SWITCHED BABY SCANDAL taps into the switched-at-birth scenario but it also brings two broken single parents together and challenges them to overcome their battle for custody and instead forge something new. They are enemies turned lovers and at the same time both devoted parents to their shared child Emily.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Theresa Meyers] The idea started with a secret baby concept turned upside down. We always read stories where the guy finds out he has a secret child he never knew about, but what would happen if it was the mom who found out? How would you cope with that or the idea that you carried a baby to term that you never got to meet because it was switched at birth with the child you’ve come to love as your own? This naturally put both parents on the defense against one another regarding custody—but what if they were both wounded enough, single and attracted to one another. Then what kind of chaos could that cause? I know, I’m twisted in that I like to torture my characters my making things as difficult for them as possible. But it makes for interesting stories!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Taylor?

[Theresa Meyers] Determined. Protective. Wounded.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If Reece had a theme song, what would it be?

[Theresa Meyers] Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman by Bryan Adams

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing Taylor is never without.

[Theresa Meyers] A picture of her daughter Emily.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things will you never find in Reece’s bathroom?

[Theresa Meyers] “O” Magazine, bubblebath, hairspray

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Taylor’s greatest regret?

[Theresa Meyers] I believe Taylor’s greatest regret was in getting involved with Michael – her ex. It scarred her in ways that have left her unsure of herself when it comes to men and relationships, and especially in risking her daughter’s wellbeing with a father figure. But at the same time, it was probably the most significant event in her life because it gave her a daughter which changed her life and allowed her to love in even greater ways. I guess even the worst things have a silver lining.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?

[Theresa Meyers] Honestly, I’d have to say my mother. She was an incredibly creative person. She painted, played the violin and piano, sang and was always reading aloud to us with a constantly changing set of voices to fit the characters. She always encouraged us to read and later for me to write. In her own way she left a huge impression on me in terms of looking at the world for more than just the surface stuff we see every day. She made just being alive kind of magical and always encouraged us children to look for the exceptional in everyday things, like the way dew made the grass sparkle like it was scattered with diamonds, and what if they really were diamonds and you could just run about scooping up handfuls of them, what would you do with them? That kind of thing.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?

[Theresa Meyers] Tea with stevia and half and half.

Something to write with, I prefer a keyboard, but I’ll make due with a cheap spiral notebook and pen when I’m traveling light or in a pinch (like camping where the laptop can’t be recharged.)

My scene/chapter outline sheets that I make off of my plotting board so I always know where I am in the story even if I only have five minutes to write while I’m waiting to pick up the kids to take them to practice.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?

[Theresa Meyers] The Devil Colony by James Rollins. I end up saving his books as my carrot to finish my deadlines.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?

[Theresa Meyers] Let me modify that to say the one book that turned me on to reading romance – that would have been Victoria Holt’s Mistress of Mellyn. I swear I grabbed everything they had in the library with her name on it and read it all in a month or two. I was totally hooked.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Theresa Meyers] A lot! Mostly I feel like a mom-taxi for my two teens, but much of the time what I do with my free time depends on the season and the kids’ schedules. In the summer we’ll often go out on the family boat and take the kids wake-boarding or go down to the sand dunes and run our quads out to the ocean. I grow and garden every year and the kids and I can veggies like dill green beans and homegrown tomatoes. In the fall and winter I like to bake and make homemade soups and watch movies and I’ll often get sewing projects done or paint something when the weather is nasty outside.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Theresa Meyers] The easiest way for readers to find me is via my Twitter feed at or via Facebook at They can also reach me via email through my website at

The Switched Baby Scandal

His child. Her daughter. One monumental mix-up.

Single mom Taylor Lawrence just discovered that the hospital sent her home with the wrong infant five years ago. Now the headstrong and handsome biological father wants his child back. But Emily has always been her daughter, and Taylor won’t give her up without a fight.

Widower Reece Wallace believed his life was over when a drunk driver killed his wife and daughter. So when he learns of the baby switch, he sees this child as his ultimate salvation. But he never anticipated the fiery woman on the other side of this custody battle or how shed stir feelings in him long dormant.

As the media storm surrounding the hospitals mistake intensifies, Taylor and Reece find there’s more to sort out than custody of Emily they must work together to protect her while grappling with their growing attraction. Can they pick up the pieces of two broken families and meld them into something new?

About the author:

Theresa Meyers | Raised by a bibliophile who made the dining room into a library, Theresa has always been a lover of books and stories despite dyslexia that made it difficult for her to write and read until the fourth grade. First a writer for newspapers, then for national magazines, she started her first novel in high school, eventually enrolling in a Writer’s Digest course and putting the book under the bed until she joined Romance Writers of America in 1993. In 2005 she was selected as one of eleven finalists for the American Title II contest, the American Idol of books.

She is married to the first man she ever went on a real date with (to their high school prom), who she knew was hero material when he suffered through having to let her parents drive, and her brother sit between them in the backseat of the car. They currently live in a Victorian house on a mini farm in the Pacific Northwest with their two children, two cats, an old chestnut Arabian gelding, an energetic mini-Aussie shepherd dog, a parakeet and an out-of-control herb garden.

She collects teapots, teddy bears and steampunk gadgetry, and when not writing can be found sewing, painting, canning, baking, or hiding out in a comfy chair reading a wonderful book. On occasion, you might find her scuba diving or riding her white quad with hot pink flames on the sand dunes. Her favorite television shows are Supernatural (Dean Girl), The Vampire Diaries, Once Upon a Time and Grimm (is it any wonder she writes fiction?). You can find her online at her Web site or frequently on Twitter @Theresa_Meyers.
