Interview with Alexa Bravo, Author of In Bed With the Boss

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Good morning, Alexa!  Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Alexa Bravo] Unabashed lover of happy endings!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about In Bed with the Boss?

[Alexa Bravo] In Bed With the Boss is about a divorced executive, Trish, who has one crazy elevator “ride” with a drop-dead gorgeous stranger only to realise that he’s not going to remain a stranger for long.  Trish has spent years climbing the corporate ladder and just when she is about to realise her dreams she finds herself having to contend with a very powerful and very inconvenient attraction to her boss which puts her whole career (and his) at risk.

[Manga Maniac Cafe]  Can you share your favorite scene?

[Alexa Bravo] I’ve got to confess that I can’t go past the elevator scene.  It’s been one of my fantasies for a long time and being able to write about it was the next best thing to being able to live it (ok, probably not even close but one can dream, right?).  Trish allows her attraction for a complete stranger to override her common sense and she loses herself in the moment.  For that one moment in time she is not a woman who failed at her marriage, or an executive who has to continue to prove her worth, she is simply a passionate, desirable woman who gets what she wants, when and how she wants it.  Very powerful stuff!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What gave you the most trouble with the story?

[Alexa Bravo] I think the characters drove me a little crazy sometimes, the way they refused to talk to each other about what really mattered to them until it was almost too late.  A lot of the time it felt like I was just a scribe telling their story and sometimes I just wanted to stop writing and yell at them to ‘just TALK already!”  I had surprisingly little input into their lives, it was almost like taking very frustrating dictation.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?

[Alexa Bravo] My e-reader.  It goes everywhere with me.  Waiting rooms, traffic jams, boring meetings, there is always a chance I’ll get to read a few more words of whatever story I’m currently engrossed in.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name three things on your desk right now.

[Alexa Bravo] A newer, faster modem (I keep meaning to upgrade but really, with so many books to read – and write – who has the time?), an unopened packet of blank CDs (for all those music compilations I was going to put together until I discovered blue tooth) and a picture of a fairy castle with the words “You are the best mummy ever” scrawled along the page, recently gifted to me by my 7-year old daughter (she might be slightly biased, disclaimer right there).

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could trade places with anyone for just one day, who would you be?

[Alexa Bravo] J.R Ward – I would love to get into her head and find out what will happen next in my favourite paranormal series, The Black Dagger Brotherhood. Of course, if her characters are as stubborn about listening as mine are, it may not prove to be as enlightening as hoped :-).

[Manga Maniac Cafe] You have been granted the use of one superpower for one week.  Which power would you choose, and what would you do with it?

[Alexa Bravo] Hmmm, don’t know if you’d call it a superpower but I’d love to be able to hear people’s thoughts.  What people say and what they think and the discrepancies between the two is an aspect of human behaviour that has fascinated me from the time I enrolled in my psychology degree (luckily the coin landed on heads otherwise I might have been an English major instead, just btw).  It’s certainly a theme I can see coming through in my writing.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are some books that you enjoyed recently?

[Alexa Bravo] The King, by J.R Ward is one I grabbed as soon as it was released and devoured in one sitting.  I’m also currently reading (and loving) the Hellions of Halstead Hall series by Sabrina Jeffries and have recently rediscovered Carly Phillips and her Serendipity novels.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?
