It’s a scary, scary place for him, especially when he’s fighting his pre-game nerves. This pre-game confrontation features players from several teams and was absolutely hilarious.

The Spring Tournament begins! Karasuno’s first game is against Ohgi Minami – a team that lost to powerhouse Shiratorizawa. When Hinata, during his pre-game jitters, runs into Towada, a 2nd year for Oghi Minami, he is mistaken for a middle-grader (again). Hinata defiantly proclaims that Karasuno is going to win EVERY SINGLE game in the tournament and make it all the way to Finals. Towada, humoring him, gives him a head-pat, pissing Hinata off even more.

Realizing that their game isn’t good enough to win at the Spring Tournament, Hinata wants to change how they run the freak quick attack. Instead of closing his eyes and trusting Kageyama to put the ball where he can hit it, he wants to keep his eyes open and be a more active participant in the play. Kageyama refuses to listen to him, and tells him he won’t put the ball where he can hit it anymore. It’s too close to the tournament to change their best play. The tension between the two teammates alters the flow of the entire game, and their first training camp is a disaster.

I love the never-ending battles in shounen manga, be it cooking battles, board game battles, battles to the death, or my new favorite – VOLLEYBALL battles! I still don’t understand the rules of the game, but the tension is ratcheted up so high that all I needed to know was that Karasuno has their work cut out for them if they want to progress in the Inter-High Tournament!
