Teaser Tuesday–Once Upon a Winter’s Eve by Tessa Dare

Since I bought my Kindle Fire, I have been reading eBooks by the boat load. I have been alternating between full length novels and novellas, and have read quite a few entertaining books over the past few days.  I loved the cover of Tessa Dare’s Once Upon a Winter’s Eve: A Spindle Cove Novella, and couldn’t resist clicking the BUY button.  It was only .79 cents!  So far I am enjoying it enough to contemplate hitting her backlist.

“Christian, if I’m helping you escape, I’m going to truly help you.  Not just bid you farewell and send you to your watery doom.”

Teaser Tuesday–Embers by Laura Bickle

Oh, my gosh! I am really enjoying Embers by Laura Bickle! I love the characters, even the bad guy, and the premise just rocks!

Anya spun on her heel.  Sparky launched himself forward, tearing into the ghost’s knee with his sharp teeth.  The ghost howled, flailing and kicking at Sparky.t

Teaser Tuesday–Crossed and Eternal Rider

I love this line from Crossed by Ally Condie, and wish that I, too, could see the one good part in everything.

My mother could dance and sing and she went out to watch the sunset every night.  “They didn’t have sunsets like these in the Main Provinces,” she’d say.  She always found the one good part of everything and then turned her face toward it every chance she had.

Eternal Rider by Larissa Ione is about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.  I  couldn’t resist.  Really.  Horse. Men.

Ares spun his mug down the length of the bar top and slid his queen into striking position.  Triumph sang through him, filling that space in his soul that was always hungry for victory. “Checkmate.”

Teaser Tuesday–My Brother’s Shadow and Don’t Mess with Texas

I got a little distracted last week with other review books and work, so I had set My Brother’s Shadow by Monika Schroder aside. I picked it up again on Sunday, and after struggling through the first chapter, I have gotten caught up in Moritz’s daily struggles in 1918 Germany.  This is a really good read!

“Looks like the police are smarter than you thought,” I whisper to Otto as we leave the station.  He averts his eyes and mumbles, “I wish we had eaten the sausage on the train.”

I need something a little lighter in tone for my on the go read, so I went with Don’t Mess with Texas by Christie Craig.  I hope it is as humorous as it looks.

“It’s the right thing,” she repeated then rested her forehead against the steering wheel.  After one or two seconds, she squared her shoulders and mentally pulled up her big girl panties.  Letting go of a deep breath, she stared at the Dumpster adjacent to her car and hoped this wasn’t a foreshadowing of the evening.

Teaser Tuesday–Under the Never Sky and My Brother’s Shadow

I received Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi for a blog tour. This book is fantastic! I can’t put it down. I love Perry, but Aria has a little more work to do to win me over.

She saw something roll downhill as if it had been bowled toward her.  It hit a bump that shook loose a pale mask, and now she saw clear blue eyes and a nose and white teeth and black hair, tumbling over the dirt and trailing red.

My Brother’s Shadow by Monika Schroder is up next on my reading list, so I’ll share the first few sentences from this historical drama that is set in Germany in 1918.

I still hear the rhythmic drumming of the rotation press in the printing room of the Berliner Daily where I just finished my shift.  It’s already September, but late summer’s humid heat has returned; it clings to me like a hot, wet towel as I walk to the small park across the street and sit in the shade of a linden tree to read the paper I just helped to print.

Teaser Tuesday–The Vision and Virtuosity

I am almost finished with The Vision by Jen Nadol. Like The Mark, this is a thought provoking, well-written read.

I didn’t answer.  How could I? Zander was so confident, without a trace of arrogance, just a quiet certainty that he’d done the right thing.

I couldn’t imagine ever feeling that way.

Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez was a surprise arrival in my mailbox.  The first three pages have me totally hooked!

I opened my eyes.  My knuckles, bony and white, were shaking.  The pills were wearing off.  The music was over.  I opened my hand.

Teaser Tuesday–Shadow Kin and One Brave Cowboy

I wasn’t able to get much reading accomplished last week because I am so busy at work, so I am still reading Shadow Kin by M J Scott.  I really am enjoying this book, though, so I don’t care how long it takes me to finish it!  Lots of action, lots of magic, and lots of intrigue.

It was one thing for the Beast’s blood to be found.  It was another entirely for mine to be found with it.  Still, there was nothing I could do about it right now.

My “on the go” book is One Brave Cowboy by Kathleen Eagle.  I just started this, so I don’t have any impressions of it yet.

Cougar wanted peace and privacy. He needed to build a new life, and he would start with what he loved most.

Horses.

Teaser Tuesday–The Black Stallion and the Lost City and Shadow Kin

I haven’t read a Black Stallion book in forever, so I was totally excited when I saw The Black Stallion and the Lost City by Steven Farley at the library.  I knew nothing about horses when I read Walter Farley’s books in the series – I wonder what I will think of Steven’s, now that I have horses of my own?

Over the clamor of grunting horses and shouting riders, Alec could hear Bateman calling out orders from one of the camera-laden speedboats that had been tracking the runners from the river.

“Keep the camera on them!” Bateman squawked over his bullhorn from his position on the bow.

I am on an urban fantasy kick and have Shadow Kin by M.J. Scott slated for my next read. Here’s a teaser from the third page.

Legend says we kill by reaching into a man’s chest and tearing out his heart.  It’s true, we can. I’ve even done it. Once.
