Meet Jonah Sharp from Between a Rake and a Hard Place by Mia Marlowe and Connie Mason and Giveaway!

Please give a warm welcome to Jonah Sharp this morning!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Jonah Sharp] Not chatty. That should suffice.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share a typical day in the life of Sir Jonah Sharp?

[Jonah Sharp] If I were a fashionable gentleman, I’d rise about 11 o’clock. However, I am not fashionable. No matter how late a night I’ve had, and trust me, I often close down whatever establishment I frequent, I still rise shortly after dawn. My morning starts with a vigorous ride. If I exercise my body to exhaustion, I find my conscience troubles me less. Afternoon finds me at Boodles, my favorite coffeehouse. It’s always instructive to listen to the conversations around me. Information is my stock in trade, since I serve as an agent for a secretive group known as The Triad. I avoid Polite Society when I can, but in pursuit of Lady Serena, I have even been known to subject myself to that torture known as opera.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words come to mind when you think of Lady Serena?

[Jonah Sharp] Too much trouble. Well, almost…

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you find most exasperating about her?

[Jonah Sharp] She is utterly fearless, which makes me fear for her. How can I protect a lady from herself?

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could change one thing you’ve done in your life, what would it be?

[Jonah Sharp] I would change my decision to lead my men into battle at Maubeuge, France. The intelligence I was given was faulty, but I should have ordered my own reconnoiter of the enemy forces. The disaster there followed me home and gave Fortescue Alcock the leverage he needed to blackmail me into seducing Lady Serena. Alcock has his reasons for not wanting the lady to become the Duke of Kent’s new duchess. After getting to know her, I have reasons of my own.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?

[Jonah Sharp] My sword. I performed my first official assassination for the Triad in the guise of a duel. I was very young and it was exhilarating to hazard myself for King and country. Now that I look back, it was also the last time I felt my hands were clean.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How do you relax after a hard day plotting the ruination of a lady?

[Jonah Sharp] With extreme difficulty. Lady Serena is not an easy lady to ruin, both because she’s no fool and because after a while, I began to reconsider agreeing to ruin her. She’s not at all the usual debutant. She’s smart. Adventurous. Imaginative. She deserves to be celebrated, not destroyed. I came to know my true mission was to protect her. Even if that meant protecting her from myself.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share your dreams for the future in five words or less.

[Jonah Sharp] It only takes one—Serena.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

[Jonah Sharp] Thank you for having me this day. May you and your friends never run out of books.

Lady Serena’s List of Forbidden Pleasures

Attend an exclusively male club.

Smoke a cigar.

Have a fortune told by gypsies.

Dance the scandalous waltz.

Sir Jonah Sharp thinks Lady Serena Osbourne will be just like any other debutante, and seducing her will be one of the easiest services he’s ever done for the Crown. Then he catches her wearing trousers and a mustache in his gentleman’s club and she demands he teach her to smoke a cigar. But what will truly be Jonah’s undoing is finding out he’s an item on her list too, which makes him determined to bring her all the forbidden pleasures she can handle.

Thank you for the chance in the giveaway.
My question: Sir Sharp you say that it is difficult to protect a lady from herself, but how far would you go to acomplish that goal?

For Jonah: Why does your conscience bother you?

Thanks for such a fun interview and congrats to Mia on her newest release! Ummm… for Jonah: what is your favorite aspect of Serena’s character?

What is your favorite beverage and food item at Boodles? How do you take your coffee? LOL

    What a fun interview. 🙂

This book sounds great as well as Jonah! Thanks for the giveaway.

Jonah sounds like a very complex character. It will be interesting to see how he comes to his HEA.

Jonah, all a man needs to do to sweep me off my feet is to behave like a gentleman. Should I mention that said gentleman is an Alpha? ;o)

I love Mia’s books, Hi Jonah not sure that I have a question other than do you have to be a fictional character 😉 Thanks Carin

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:20 am

Alexisa–Jonah says he’ll go as far as he needs to in order to protect Serena, even to his own hurt.

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:23 am

Gayle– Mia here. Jonah doesn’t like to talk about it, but he longs for the days when he rode off to fight for king and country with clean hands. You learn what’s bothering him in Between a Rake and a Hard Place..

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:24 am

Erin–Jonah is both drawn to and horrified by Serena’s fearlessness. She doesn’t seem to realize how risky some of her adventures might become.

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:26 am

Marcy–Jonah here. I take my coffee black. And while most of Boodles’ patrons prefer their Orange Fool, I confess to a weakness for butter biscuits.

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:27 am

BN–Jonah here. Thank you. You sound enigmatic, a beguiling quality in a woman.

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:29 am

Janie–Jonah here. I come to my HEA with extreme surprise. I never expected it because I don’t feel I deserve it.

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:31 am

Betty–Jonah says: What is this alpha of which you speak? A man cannot be a letter of the alphabet. A man can only keep his word, live by his code and protect those who are weaker than he. Otherwise, he is not a man, alpha, beta or zed.

  • January 22, 2014 at 7:33 am

Carin–Jonah says he doesn’t understand what you mean by fictional. He feels real enough to him.

  • January 22, 2014 at 8:06 am

Love it! I would like for someone to plan a trip down to the last detail and just tell me what time to be ready. I think that would sweep me off my feet.

  • January 22, 2014 at 1:32 pm

Sounds like a plan, but I’d like to have a little input as to where I’d be going, Kim. I remember a great line from the play Our Town where one of the women really wants to go to Paris, but her husband thinks visiting the Civil War battlefields is enough excitement for anybody.

Jonah – I wish you the best of luck with Lady Serena and for your future together.
