Interview with Gina Gordon, Author of Recipe for Attraction

[Manga Maniac Cafe]  Good morning, Gina!  Can you please describe yourself in 140 characters or less.

[Gina Gordon] I am a cupcake-loving Canadian, self-proclaimed happily ever after junkie, lover of German Shepherds and funny animal gifs.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Recipe for Attraction?

[Gina Gordon] Recipe for Attraction is the second book in my Madewood Brothers series and stars Neil Harrison, the oldest Madewood brother and foster son of the late socialite Vivian Madewood. Neil battles feelings of unworthiness and is haunted by his past. To prove his worth he’s building the biggest culinary venture the family has ever taken on—the Madewood Farm. But Neil has found an outlet for keeping his demons at bay…..illegal street racing.

Enter Carson Kelly, his architect and former street racetress, who’s hoping her work on the Madewood Farm will finally garner the approval of her father and secure her the lead designer position at his firm. Carson has her own secrets and will do anything to keep Neil from the track. Even if it means she ends up in his bed. Not that it’s such a hardship 🙂

Their love/hate relationship fuels their sexual attraction and it’s only a matter of time before they realize they are meant for each other.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Gina Gordon] The Madewood Brothers were created based on a real life sighting of hot chefs. I have a friend who went to a food event and one of the caterers was a duo of hot, tattooed chefs. She of course told me all about it and demanded I write about them ?

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Carson?

[Gina Gordon] Sexually Aware

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If Neil had a theme song, what would it be?

[Gina Gordon] Neil’s theme song is Closer by Nine Inch Nails. The song is raw, intense, and in a way, is a really creepy love song LOL With lyrics like “My whole existence is flawed, you get me closer to God” it just sums up Neil and how he feels about Carson.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing Carson is never without.

[Gina Gordon] Her safety equipment—whether it be her motorcycle helmet or hard hat and steel-toe boots at the construction site—she is always prepared.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things will you never find in Neil’s bedroom?

[Gina Gordon] self help books

smelly candles

food (he’s too much of a neat freak and only eats in designated areas)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Carson’s greatest regret?

[Gina Gordon] Not being able to help her friend who died in a motorcycle accident. She feels responsible for his death and wishes she realized how dangerous racing was before he died so she could have changed things.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?

[Gina Gordon] I guess my greatest creative influence is a “who”. My favorite author, and the person I admire most in the writing world, is Lorelei James. She knows exactly what words to put on the page to draw you in, keep you interested, and make you fall in love with the characters. It appears so effortless and I strive to be able to do the same with my books.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?

[Gina Gordon] Coffee

My laptop

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?

[Gina Gordon] Well, if I was doing this interview two weeks ago I would have said Kit Rocha’s Beyond series. Absolutely fantastic and three of the best books I’ve read in a really, really long time. However, last week I started Christina Lauren’s Beautiful Stranger and my, oh my, that knocked my socks off too. I highly recommend both series if you haven’t read them yet.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?

[Gina Gordon] If we’re going back to my childhood I think it would have been the Babysitter’s Club series that really got me addicted to reading. If we’re talking romance, it was Stranger by Megan Hart. It pains me to admit it, but I am not a life-long romance reader.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Gina Gordon] Reading, browsing gossip internet sites, and I love to bake. I especially like baking cupcakes and donuts. I have a pretty awesome donut maker.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

About Recipe for Attraction

Bad boy Neil Harrison may have a sexy body and an even sexier smile, but there’s no way in hell architect Carson Kelly is falling for the elusive bachelor. For starters, he’s her boss, and getting intimately involved with the infuriating alpha male could be a career-killer. And secondly, he’s battling personal demons in one of the most dangerous ways possible: illegal street racing. After a friend’s tragic death years ago, Carson swore she’d never get involved in that life again.
Neil knows Carson’s keeping secrets and he’s determined to uncover all of them…even if he has to seduce them out of her. But as their antagonistic work relationship ignites a passionate affair, Carson must decide if protecting Neil from his need for speed is the perfect outlet for her own restless desire, or if they’re on a one-way path to destruction.
