[Manga Maniac Café] Good morning, Ellen! Can you please describe yourself in 140 characters or less.
[Ellen Butler] Author, mother, wife, shoe lover, chocoholic, fashion fan, sarcastic wit, autumn enthusiast, dancer, book worm, and good-time devotee.
[Manga Maniac Café] Can you tell us a little about Second Chance Christmas?
[Ellen Butler] I would say Second Chance Christmas is about forgiveness, healing old wounds, and allowing a new, stronger love, a chance to blossom from the ashes of misconception and miscommunication.
[Manga Maniac Café] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?
[Ellen Butler] I came across a call for open submission novellas and there were four themes authors could choose to write about. For me, the military theme struck close to home. Living in the DC area I’m surrounded by military families, and am honored to call many of them friends. The idea of a soldier returning home and rekindling love struck my fancy and got the creative juices brewing. From there I determined to make Emma an intelligent woman with a significant career because there are a number of women like her working in DC. Giving Colton a gift with languages easily led to him becoming an intelligence officer in the Army. Once their careers were determined, it didn’t take much to come up with a reason for their initial conflict.
[Manga Maniac Café] If you had a theme song, what would it be?
[Ellen Butler] Shoes, by Shania Twain
[Manga Maniac Café] Name one thing you won’t leave home without.
[Ellen Butler] Lip gloss.
[Manga Maniac Café] What three things do you need in order to write?
[Ellen Butler] My computer, a cup of tea, and a thesaurus.
[Manga Maniac Café] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?
[Ellen Butler] My book group recently read Orange is the New Black, by Piper Kerman, and I was blown away by the ineptitude and iniquitousness of our justice system’s mandatory sentencing structure.
[Manga Maniac Café] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?
[Ellen Butler] As a child I became a huge fan of the Nancy Drew series by Carolyn Keene. I think my favorite was Mystery at the Lilac Inn.
[Manga Maniac Café] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?
[Ellen Butler] I enjoy spending time with my family, cozying up with a glass of wine and a good book, or having a date night on the town with hubby.
[Manga Maniac Café] How can readers connect with you?

Second Chance Christmas by Ellen Butler
About the book:
Prominent DC attorney Emma Taylor is pulled away from a promising date the week before Christmas to pick up her ex-fiance from the ER after a bar fight. She’s in no mood to re-open old wounds, but it’s Christmas and she can’t just leave him alone and injured.
Eight hundred eighty-four days. That’s how much time has passed since Major Colton Evans made the biggest mistake of his life. Even after two tours of duty and too much shrapnel in his leg, it’s still the loss of Emma that haunts him. And if he can win her back, he’ll take any chance.
When she insists he stay with her during the holiday, they put out enough sexual electricity to rival the most decorated house on the block. But will it be enough to light the way to a future together?
About Ellen Butler
I am an old, new writer. In other words, old to writing, new to novel writing. My history includes a long list of writing and editing for dry but illuminating professional newsletters and journals, and windy papers on public policy and political science. The leap to novel writing is simply a creative outlet for my over active and romantic imagination to run wild.
My genre is Women’s Fiction and Romance. I like to provide strong female characters, romance, and suspense in my novels. I work hard to envelop you in the story, to make you root for the heroine by laughing with her or yelling at her when she makes mistakes.
