Interview with Dana Marton, Author of Spy in the Saddle

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Good morning, Dana! Can you please describe yourself in 140 characters or less.

[Dana Marton] Addicted to books. Author, businesswoman, dreamer, hopeless romantic. My motto is: CREATE THE LIFE YOU’LL BE EXCITED TO LIVE.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Spy in the Saddle?

[Dana Marton] Spy in the Saddle is the last book in my Texas HQ mini-series. A group of undercover commandos are posing as consultants for CBP (Customs and Border Protection) on the Texas border, trying to catch a group of terrorists who are planning to bring chemical weapons over. It’s a complicated mission with drug and gun smuggling muddying up the picture, human trafficking and dirty CBP officers all needing attention. Constant danger, high stakes. Falling in love could not be more inconvenient for these guys.

The back cover blurb says it all: It’s been ten years since soldier Shep Lewis laid eyes on delinquent-turned-FBI agent Lilly Tanner, and this time they have an even bigger problem than each other: terrorists. In the center of a smuggling operation, Shep and Lilly must partner up and protect each other.

Not even their undercover identities can mask the mounting attraction between the pair as they struggle to survive in the merciless Texas borderlands. Can they put the past behind them and focus on the mission at hand? Or will their partnership reignite the flames of their untapped passions?

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Dana Marton] I write a lot of military and ex-military heroes.  I wanted to write a book where the heroine was not only the equal of the hero, but maybe even above him in the hierarchy. Lilly is sent by the FBI to oversee Shep’s group and make recommendations  about what to do with the team. (Since they tend to break the rules.) Lilly and Shep are two strong-headed people. Their clashing wills throw some pretty hot sparks :-)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Lilly?

[Dana Marton] Tough. Honest. Smart.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If Shep had a theme song, what would it be?

[Dana Marton] Hero by Chad Kroeger

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing Lilly is never without.

[Dana Marton] Her gun.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things will you never find in Shep’s bedroom?

[Dana Marton] Anything pink. Fur. Any other woman but Lilly.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Lilly’s greatest regret?

[Dana Marton] Setting Shep’s house on fire 10 years ago. (She also deeply regrets stealing his car and having him fired from his job.)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?

[Dana Marton] Suzanne Brockmann and Nora Roberts.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?

[Dana Marton] Quiet. Coffee. A snack. (I wish I could give up the last two.)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?

[Dana Marton] Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?

[Dana Marton] I can’t remember that far back! But I devoured adventure stories in middle school. Captain Nemo, Robinson Crusoe etc. Then I found romance with Jane Eyre. I never looked back.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Dana Marton] I love reading, gardening, painting, going for long walks with my husband. Love redecorating the house. I’m always dragging furniture this way or that. I hate traveling, but love spending time in other countries. I bite the bullet and plan one big trip each year. We’ve spent  time in England, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Cyprus, Malta, Curacao, etc.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Dana Marton] I love chatting with my readers on Facebook: www.facebook.com/danamarton . I know I can ask any question there and it will be answered, be it medical or law enforcement related, choosing names for characters, help with the back cover blurb or picking a cover model. I LOVE my readers.

Thank you so much for having me as a guest, Julie!!!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!
