Meet Daphne Honeycote from Anne Barton’s Once She Was Tempted

Please welcome special guest Daphne Honeycote to the virtual offices this morning.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Daphne Honeycote] Secretive, loyal, resilient, caring, and passionate.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share a typical day in the life of Daphne Honeycote?

[Daphne Honeycote] Before my sister married a duke, a typical day involved caring for my sick mother in our tiny apartment, begging the apothecary for her medicine, and figuring out where our next meal would come from. Now…it seems like everything has changed. I wear silk ball gowns, have a lady’s maid, and live in Mayfair. On the inside though, I’m still a poor girl from St. Giles—who’s crippled by a shameful secret.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words come to mind when you think of Ben?

[Daphne Honeycote] Infuriating; sinfully attractive.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you find most exasperating about him?

[Daphne Honeycote] That he says whatever he’s thinking, even when it’s impolite. He pushes away the people who care about him and refuses to let anyone help him—especially me. And yet, I know there’s a goodness deep inside him.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could change one thing you’ve done in your life, what would it be?

[Daphne Honeycote] I don’t have any regrets, not even posing for the scandalous portraits. To help the people I love, I’d do it all again.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?

[Daphne Honeycote] A pouch of comfrey—in case someone’s hurt and I need to mix up a poultice.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How do you like to unwind after a stressful day protecting the Honeycote family name?

[Daphne Honeycote] I like to sneak away for a cup of hot chocolate and a cozy chat with my sister, Anabelle.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share your dreams for the future in five words or less.

[Daphne Honeycote] Happiness, health, love, friends, family.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

About the book:

A Portrait of a Lady

…or is it? The risqué painting owned by Benjamin Elliot, the earl of Foxburn, features a stunning beauty with sapphire eyes, golden hair, and creamy skin. Ben recognizes this particular English rose the instant he meets her—though she’s wearing considerably more clothing. In person, the demure debutante is even more irresistible…

In desperate need of money for her sick mother, Daphne Honeycote had posed for two scandalous portraits. Now she must hide her secret to save the Honeycote family name. Ben’s possession of one painting makes him an insufferable thorn in her side—and yet he may be her best chance at finding the canvas’s companion. As she becomes drawn to the dark-tempered earl, can Daphne risk laying bare the secrets of her heart?
