Meet Gabriel Vincent from Courtney Cole’s If You Leave

Today’s special guest is Gabe Vincent, bad boy hero of Courtney Cole’s If You Leave.  He stopped by the virtual offices to introduce himself.  Please give him a warm welcome!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Gabe] Tall, temperamental, loyal, strong, regimented

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share a typical day in the life of Gabriel Vincent?

[Gabe] I get up early (5 am) to go for a run.  Then I answer email, returns calls, you know- regular business stuff.   I usually try to talk Maddy into some mid-afternoon action (sometimes it goes over well, sometimes it doesn’t).  We usually eat out in the evening because neither of us cook much.  And then I spend the nights fighting Maddy for the covers.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to choose one moment that made you the person you are today, which would it be?

[Gabe] The moment that I joined the Army Rangers.  Without a doubt.   The moment I met Maddy was pivotal, but I was the person I am today long before that.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words come to mind when you think of Maddy?

[Gabe] Beautiful- inside and out.  That’s four words, I know.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you find most exasperating about her?

[Gabe] The woman steals the covers at night!  You’d think, since I outweigh her by 100 pounds, I could keep the covers to myself.  Also, she has a tendency to put too much pressure on herself.  I’m always telling her to cut herself some slack.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could change one thing you’ve done in your life, what would it be?

[Gabe] There’s one moment that I would love to change– but I don’t think I would.  I think everything happens for a reason– and everything has a purpose.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s you happiest childhood memory?

[Gabe] Spending summers at my grandparents’ lakehouse.  Brand used to come with us and we’d spend every day by Lake Michigan.  It was a perfect childhood summer.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?

[Gabe] My driver’s license.  It’s sort of like the habit I got into in Afghanistan with my dog tags.  I didn’t go anywhere without them.  Just in case.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share your dreams for the future in five words or less.

[Gabe] It’s hard to predict the future, but I can assure you, that mine has Maddy in it.  And that’s enough.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

[Gabe] Thank YOU so much for having me!

About the book:

26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can’t get past, he needs someone who can help him heal…even if he doesn’t realize it.

25-year old Madison Hill doesn’t need anybody…or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents’ messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there’s no way in hell that she’s ever letting that happen to her.
They don’t know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.

But Gabriel’s got a secret, a hidden monster that he’s afraid Maddy could never overcome… And Maddy’s got issues that she’s afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they’ve got demons to fight.

And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly.
