Please give a warm welcome to Susannah Scott! She’s visiting the virtual offices this morning to celebrate the release of her PNR Luck of the Dragon. This is a very fun romance with dragons, so if you’re looking for a shifter story, give this one a try!
[Susannah Scott] Hi Julie! Thank you so much for having me on Manga Café today!
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.
[Susannah Scott] Wife, mother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, friend… I’m all about my loved ones and faith first. Then I get in to the artistic side, which is what I do for me! I’ve dabbled with pottery, stain glass, and drawing, but writing is the best fit for me. I love putting together a well-crafted story with real-life relationships and hot chemistry. We recently built a house and I found, to my shock, that I have a creative blind spot. I am horrible with painting and paint color cohesion. Who knew?!
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Luck of the Dragon?
[Susannah Scott] LUCK OF THE DRAGON is the first book in the Las Vegas Dragons series. Alec, my uber hot, Joe Manganiello-looking hero owns a ritzy Las Vegas casino, which provides a hidden-in-plain-sight sanctuary for his dragon-shifting people. His only problem is that Lucy, the sexy gem appraiser trying to steal from him, just might be his mate. It seemed natural to use “luck” in the title and I liked the play on “luck of the draw.”
[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?
[Susannah Scott] I wanted my heroine to be a tough and gritty with real world problems. In this case, her brother’s gambling debts are forcing her to steal. Alec, is the perfect foil for all her problems. Their conflicting goals and powerful chemistry create some great banter and a satisfying HEA.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Lucy?
[Susannah Scott] Tough, suspicious, loyal.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] If Alec had a theme song, what would it be?
[Susannah Scott] Alec is old world charming with a modern cleverness, so that 60’s song “What’s your name? Who’s your daddy? Is he rich like me…” comes to mind: The Zombies ~ Time of the season
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing Lucy is never without.
[Susannah Scott] Jewels! She is a gemologist and after her impoverished childhood, she always has them on hand to cash out if she needs to.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things will you find in Alec’s bedroom?
[Susannah Scott] The dragons in Luck of the Dragon are very sensual, sensory creatures. You would definitely find very nice, high thread count, or silk sheets. A balcony that he can fly off, and luxurious jewels and art.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Alec’s greatest regret?
[Susannah Scott] Letting his former friend, Ambrogino, and now worst enemy live.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?
[Susannah Scott] I love famous/great first line books, I have like 5 of them. It is a real feat to pull a reader into a story immediately. I also try to read 2-3 craft books a month. Right now, I am focused on deep point of view and subtext. I also really indulge my visual and auditory muse. If something is beautiful to me, I focus on it and enjoy the heck out of it!
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?
[Susannah Scott] Swimmer’s ear plugs. This is a funny story. I started out writing on the couch while my babies watched cartoons. I would put in the ear plugs to tune out Elmo. Now, even though the house is quite, I still need them to get in the “zone.” Number two and three would be coffee with cream, and my walking treadmill desk.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What was your biggest distraction when you were working on Luck of the Dragon?
[Susannah Scott] Family needs and commitments, thank goodness my kids like peanut butter and jelly!
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?
[Susannah Scott] I just read a Rachel Gibson re-release, it was great!
[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?
[Susannah Scott] The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, old is a fantasy novel by Patricia A. McKillip that I found on my Uncle’s book shelf. [Ed. note – I LOVE this book, too!]
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?
[Susannah Scott] I have a second job, so any spare time I have, I spend my husband and kids. Our favorite is kayaking on the river.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

About the author:
SUSANNAH SCOTT lives in the Missouri Ozarks and is the lone female in a very loud household of males ranging in age from 4 to 40. While she jokes that the extreme levels of testosterone inspired her to write romance, it is really the love of creating an excellent story, and the occasional dreams of twenty-foot dragons, that wake her and send her to the laptop before the chaos of daily life ensues. Susannah loves to hear from her readers. Please visit her website at www.susannahscottbooks.com or follow her as Susannah Scott on Facebook and @Susannah_Scott on Twitter.
