Interview with Jennifer Faye, Author of Rancher to the Rescue

Please welcome Jennifer Faye to the virtual offices this morning.  Jennifer is here to chat about her debut Harlequin Romance Rancher to the Rescue.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.

[Jennifer Faye] List-maker. Romance reader. Wife. Mother. Animal lover. Gardener. Procrastinator. Homebody. Loves sewing. Not enough time for everything.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Rancher to the Rescue?

[Jennifer Faye] Meghan Finnegan is a rising star as television’s celebrity chef. So when this hometown girl is about to marry a millionaire, the wedding makes the perfect story for her television show. With cameras rolling, the bride is jilted at the altar. She makes a mad dash out of the church with the press hot on her trail. Cash Sullivan is waiting outside for his grandmother. Past experience taught him that pledges of love are only for fools. And he wants nothing to do with love or weddings. But when the runaway bride ends up hiding in his truck, he’s got a choice to make: have his face splashed on the tabloids with the runaway bride or be her getaway driver.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Jennifer Faye] I actually came up with three totally different concepts before writing RANCHER TO THE RESCUE. I was gearing up for one of Harlequin’s Fast Track opportunities where they respond on the first chapter by a specific date. By this point I’d been submitting manuscripts to Harlequin for a while to various lines. I really wanted to find a home with the Romance line. So I wrote the beginning of three totally different stories and then I made some family and close friends vote on the strongest. It was unanimous. RANCHER TO THE RESCUE won. As for its inspiration, I’ve always loved RUNAWAY BRIDE with Julie Roberts and Richard Gere. So I had to ask myself why would a bride standing at the altar not got through with the wedding. After that I kept answering a long list of “why?” until I had Meghan and Cash’s story.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Meghan?

[Jennifer Faye] Creative. Thoughtful. Strong.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If Cash had a theme song, what would it be?

[Jennifer Faye] Mamas Don`t Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys ~ Waylon Jennings

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing Meghan is never without.

[Jennifer Faye] Her smart phone…until the wedding…

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things will you never find in Cash’s bathroom?

[Jennifer Faye] An extra toothbrush. Cutesy decorations. Hair mousse.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Meghan’s greatest regret?

[Jennifer Faye] Up until the point where her life plan fell apart, she thought she had it all figured out. Now she regrets thinking that she could have been satisfied in a loveless, marriage-of-convenience.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?

[Jennifer Faye] My imagination. It goes non-stop. All of my life I’ve been asking, “But what if…”

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?

[Jennifer Faye] My kitty. A laptop. A HUGE mug of tea. :-) Not necessarily in that order.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?

[Jennifer Faye] Robyn Carr’s VIRGIN RIVER book #1. I totally fell in love with the town and the intriguing characters. I devoured that book. :-)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?

[Jennifer Faye] The very first books that gave me a passion for reading and writing were by Dr. Seuss. :-) Then as a teenager I fell in love with books by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss, Danielle Steele, and Johanna Lindsey.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Jennifer Faye] First up is spending time with my family. I also like to do needlework of all different varieties. I like to garden. Talk to my friends on Twitter. And read.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Jennifer Faye] I love to chat with other book lovers. You can reach me at:

About the book:

RANCHER TO THE RESCUE

Damsel in a wedding dress!

Jilted at the altar, celebrity chef Meghan Finnegan flees the scene–and the baying press–only to run straight into the muscled torso of Cash Sullivan.

The former rodeo champion knows what it’s like to have your life crumble in the spotlight, so he offers Meghan a place to lie low at his ranch.

Fresh air, no paparazzi and the brooding rancher’s lazy smile are making Meghan not want to leave her sanctuary. But she and her unborn baby can’t stay here forever…can they?

About the author:

As far back as Jennifer can remember, she’s had her nose buried in a book. She remembers anxiously awaiting Santa to bring her a typewriter in order to write her first book. But before she could reach for her dreams, her life took a detour. She moved around a bit before settling into the position of statistician by day and wife/mother by night. Each new life adventure added fodder for her fertile imagination. Through it all she never lost sight of her dream.

When at last she had the opportunity to once again put pen to paper, she couldn’t stop. As an unpublished writer, she’s gone on to win/final in nearly two dozen contests including Harlequin’s “So You Think You Can Write” Contest (2-time finalist), Finally A Bride (winner), and Linda Howard Award of Excellence (finalist).

She currently resides in Pennsylvania with her very patient husband, one amazing daughter (the other remarkable daughter has flown the coop to chase her own dreams) and two spoiled rotten cats. When she’s not glued to her laptop (which isn’t often) or enjoying some family time, she likes reading, cross-stitch, embroidery, quilting, knitting, hockey (go Pittsburgh Penguins!), and gardening.
