Special guest Hayson Manning is visiting the virtual offices to chat about her new romance, Wife in Name Only. Please give her a warm welcome.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.
[Hayson Manning] Incredibly average in all departments. I love TV commercials that make me cry. I sneak off to read all the time. I think cereal for dinner is magic.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Wife in Name Only?
[Hayson Manning] Wife in Name Only is the story of two people once so in love, who let their marriage slip away and their journey back to each other.
Trapped in a loveless marriage, Zoe Hughes escaped to make a new life for herself on a tiny island in Tonga. Now she runs a successful boutique honeymoon resort. Selling true love is easy. No one needs to know she’s married in name only. At least until America’s premier honeymoon magazine wants to publish a feature on her perfect marriage. Now she must convince her estranged husband to rip himself away from plotting corporate Monopoly with his henchmen in LA to save her island paradise.
Rory agrees to come for forty-eight hours, but only because he needs the positive PR. To his surprise, the wife he finds in Tonga isn’t the same woman who left him. She’s moved on, but he wants her back by his side in LA and more than a wife in name only.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?
[Hayson Manning] I love me an Alpha male. Yep, a straight up Alpha dude who swears (Spoiler Alert: Rory swears like a trucker), and I love strong, sassy women who challenge them. I love a reunion story. For me, after the I do’s have been said, that’s when the hard part comes in. I wanted to write a story about a couple who loved each other deeply but their lives and priorities changed and their marriage fell apart, and their struggle to find their way back to each other.
I’ve been lucky enough to journey to the island in Tonga and it is pure magic. I thought about setting a book there the moment I stepped onto the silky sand. Having Zoe live there and showing how different hers and Rory’s lives had become was like going there on a vay cay again.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Zoe?
[Hayson Manning] ABBA-addict, kind, determined. (I know I cheated with the hyphen).
[Manga Maniac Cafe] If Rory had a theme song, what would it be?
[Hayson Manning] Nothing by ABBA!
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing Zoe is never without.
[Hayson Manning] Her one eyed dog, Cinderella who she saved from a beating. They adore each other.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things will you never find in Rory’s bathroom?
[Hayson Manning] Scented soap. A hairdryer and conditioner (he’s always in a hurry and goes for the two in one shampoo and conditioner thing.)
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Rory’s greatest regret?
[Hayson Manning] That he didn’t see how desperately unhappy Zoe was in LA and he waited a year before he discovered she’d moved on without him.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?
[Hayson Manning] Reading. Getting lost in a story. I love that! It inspires me to write stronger, funnier, tighter. I love a story that can make me laugh and cry. That’s what I want to write. Now, I’m no Tolstoy here and I write category romance which I hope is fun and flirty. Well, that’s the hope.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?
[Hayson Manning] My terrible procrastination hat off. All the self-doubt demons in my head having a party and telling me I’m useless to be asleep and warm feet. I can’t do anything if my feet are cold. I shall be buried in my Uggs.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?
[Hayson Manning] Neathenderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City) by Penny Reid. Funny, sexy and with secondary characters that rocked. I had trouble putting it down which is why there’s the cereal for dinner comment.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?
[Hayson Manning] The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. How awesome is a tree which at the top has changing lands? There’s Do-As-You-Please land (my favorite) and the land of Topsy-Turvy. I’d sit and read that book for hours and dream of the lands I’d create. Chocolate land was up there along with I-Don’t-Have-To-Do-The-Dishes-Ever-Again
land. My grandmother read it to my mother who read it to me and I in turn to my kids.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?
[Hayson Manning] I like to avoid ways to exercise, like my hair hurts or I’ll crack the pavement if I attempt to run, which I feel are valid excuses. Occasionally, I glance, reluctantly at my butt and sometimes climb on the Elliptical I promised myself I’d use every day.
I love to read and can often be found sitting in a car waiting for one of the kids, glued to my iPad.
We foster dogs and I’m either dolling out TLC or taking them for a walk.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?
[Hayson Manning] I have readers? I’d love to have readers! I promise to reply to anyone who writes to me at www.haysonmanning.com
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

About the author:
Hayson Manning’s debut release, Wife in Name Only with Entangled Publishing, is available now. She lives in Southern California with her lovely sloth children, infuriating but much loved shoe-dropping husband, a tubby opinionated cat (as if a cat doesn’t ever have an opinion). There will often be a foster dog parked on the couch waiting for their forever home. She loves to read, cries while watching Antiques Roadshow and cannot speak she’s sobbing so much by the end of Undercover Boss. She is an expert at finding new and inventive ways to avoid exercise.
