Title: From Far Away #9

Author: Kyoko Hikawa

Publisher: Viz

CONTAINS SPOILERS

As the fight between Izark and Keimos rages, Noriko must find a way to escape from her captors.  Some unexpected help from an old enemy comes just in time. She hurries to Izark, determined to keep her promise to always be there for him.  As the dark power gathers to force Izark’s transformation into the Sky Demon, Noriko arrives just in time.  Izark throws off the chains that have bound him, and turns into…an angel??  I don’t know for sure, but it was freakin’ awesome!!!

Noriko and Izark escape, and hide in a village.  They help with the harvest in exchange for room and board.  During this relatively peaceful interlude, they develop a stronger bond, and Noriko takes care of the weakened Izark.  The villagers gossip about the couple, inventing outlandish stories behind their sudden appearance in town.  This was rather amusing, as their fictional past became more and embellished.

This was the best volume yet, and I hope that Kyoko Hikawa can maintain the strong story she’s telling.   It will be a shame if it loses it’s momentum and just ends, like so many manga seem to do!

Grade: A+
