Argh! What have they done to my beloved cartoon?? I didn’t care for this rendition of the Power Puff Girls story at all!
The show keeps the 2 episode per half hour model. The first episode featured the girls battling Mojo, with a little break time for an ice cream snack. Yes, it was as stupid as it sounds!
The 2nd episode showed how the Power Puff Girls gained their powers. The Professor and his son, Ken, along with their digital pet, Peach, accidentally create the Chemical Z after Peach accidentally drops daifuku into a vat of Chemical X. When icebergs threaten to overtake the city, Ken zaps some Chemical Z at them, causing chemically enhanced bits of ice to shoot out over the city. Three girls are struck by the falling ice, and they can suddenly transform into magical heroes! The transformation sequences were dreadful.
Mojo was funny, mainly because he’s so stupid, but most of the other characters were annoying. Ken was especially grating. In both episodes the mayor was able to complain about the girls destroying parts of the city, and the Professor did pretty much nothing.
I was disappointed with the first episode of this series, and probably won’t be watching anymore. All of the charm of the original is gone, and has been replaced with a run of the mill kids show. The transformation scenes were long and annoying, and I had to force myself to watch the entire episode!

I think ppgz is the best anime in the world and Ken Is the best character.But everyone has different tastes so thats why there is other animes!
Steppin’ in waaaaay late, but had to put my two cents and say I’m with you, Julie. PPGZ was a ridiculously weak adaptation of the original series (with the one exceptional moment being the second opening, which was overflowing with references to the original show! Now why couldn’t they have done that with the actual content of the anime rather than just jam it all in the opening?!). The characters were pale imitations of the original girls, not to mention weak scripting/plotting (this was so obviously geared towards a younger audience while the original had a broad, non-age specific appeal) AND TERRIBLE ANIMATION. Character designs were pretty cute. That’s about all I can say for it, though.
