The Sunday Post–June 3rd Edition with Extra Caffeine

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer. This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I don’t have anything as exciting as the twins to chat about this week.  That’s a good thing, because my life has been hectic enough the last few weeks, so it was nice to have a relatively quiet week.  Friday was a bit challenging, but I survived it mostly unscathed.  We had a couple mechanical failures that brought on big headaches, and of course my blog host choose that day to go on the fritz, too.  Ugh.

I mentioned last week that I had purchased a Mr Coffee Single Cup brewer.  My Keurig sprang a leak after several years of faithful service, so I needed a new coffee maker.  I just can’t get going in the morning without a cup or ten of the stuff.  I wanted another Keurig, but they are so expensive, and since funds are a little tight right now, I opted for one of these:

I usually purchase my small appliances from Amazon, but because I needed it right away or I thought I would surely perish, I forced Dean to race up to Target with me to stock up on some supplies in addition to the coffee maker.  I decided on this model because I could still use my small basket filters and use ground coffee, which is less expensive (and tastier) than the K-Cups.  While I do enjoy using K-Cups, they are usually a holiday splurge for me, and are of the seasonal variety.  Pumpkin Spice is my favorite, and I usually go a little nuts once they are back in stock online. Yum!

I like this brewer overall, though I do miss the reservoir of heated water and the instant brew time of the Keurig.  This maker has to heat the water after you press the brew button, and it takes about 2 minutes for that piping hot mug of caffeine.  The hopper holds enough water for 4 small or 2 mug sized cups of coffee, so I have to refill it more often.  It’s simple to set up and operate, and I do like the smaller footprint on my counter.  Space is always at a premium in my kitchen, and the old Keurig was a beast!  I recommend this brewer if you want a cheaper alternative to the Keurig single cup brewers.

Do you have a favorite morning beverage to get you moving and pumped up for the day?

    Hello fellow Sunday Post-er!

I came here to oogle your books, but found myself oogling your coffee maker instead. Glad to hear the good review on it!

    Happy Sunday! 🙂

    Whoa, you’re psychic, right?

I ran out of K-Cups two days ago and was dying because I didn’t even have any grounds around. I finally got to the store this morning and bought a couple of boxes (they only had two boxes of my favorite Vanilla Biscotti) and came home and made a giant cup.

2 minutes is still great brew time – anything that gets caffeine in my body in under 5 minutes is a blessing. I’m glad to hear Mr. Coffee is still a great brand – I think I beat the pants off of my my regular coffee pot for years and years and it always worked.

@Kimba – We have a couple reviews of the same books this week. I am curious to see if we felt the same about them 🙂

@Leah – I found out that my brother has that brewer at work. He likes it, too!

@Dani – The Keurigs are expensive! They last a while, but the Mr Coffee was almost 50 bucks cheaper, and the coffee tastes just as good.

@Barbara – My favorite is vanilla, too!! I buy the Folgers or Maxwell House cans and use that in a basket filter. I hope this Mr Coffee lasts for a while – having a broken coffee maker is very stressful for me! lol
