[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.
[Clarissa Yip] Am I on twitter? I am a avid reader, writer, student, and cupcake addict with a very bad sweet tooth.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about True Connections?
[Clarissa Yip] True Connections is a story between Lia and her nemesis, whom she’s tried to avoid her whole life but with mischievous grandmothers, it’s impossible. When love bites, it either hurts, or they just hate each other more…or so they tell themselves.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?
[Clarissa Yip] It was Valentine’s Day last year, and I was playing around with the idea of a matchmaking company, then these two old ladies started messing with my muse, and I saw that their grandkids needed to hook up. See, they’ve grown up to hate each other all their life, but then when they realize that love is the opposite of hate…things just start to fall into place. Seeing their rivalry definitely gave me a few good laughs.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What was the most challenging aspect of writing the story?
[Clarissa Yip] I would have to say, having Lia come to terms with Max, that he isn’t the enemy but the one who could fulfill all her dreams. They’re very stubborn people…
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Lia?
[Clarissa Yip] Hard-headed, mischievous, and at times too revengeful.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are three things Max would never have in in his desk drawer?
[Clarissa Yip] Anything to do with hearts, a little black book, and a diary.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?
[Clarissa Yip] I think my muse is most active when I travel. When I used to live in Hawaii, she was insane, coming up with ideas all the time. Now that I’m on the East Coast…things have been a little dreary.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?
[Clarissa Yip] Coffee. Sparkly markers. Computer.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?
[Clarissa Yip] I’m a big fan of JR Ward. So I’m going to have to say Zsadist’s story.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?
[Clarissa Yip] LOL. Actually, I like to scrapbook and play video games, but otherwise, you’d find me reading when I’m not editing or writing…but then I could be cupcake shopping for fun.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?
