Cowboy Crush Interview with Kat Martin, Author of Against the Storm

Kat Martin is the author of over 50 books, with and without cowboys!  I was thrilled when Kat agreed to drop by the virtual offices to discuss her latest book, as well as some of the reasons why she loves a good cowboy!

[Manga Maniac Café] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.

[Kat Martin] I’m a workaholic author of fifty plus books, Historical and Contemporary Romantic Suspense. I’m a perfectionist and a total romantic.

[Manga Maniac Café] Can you tell us a little about your new book, Against the Storm?

[Kat Martin] The hero of Against the Storm, Trace Rawlins, first appears in Dev Raines’ story, Against the Law. Trace is one of Dev’s Army Ranger buddies, now the owner of Atlas Security in Houston. He’s a private investigator who takes the case of a woman who is being stalked–or at least that’s what he believes. But Maggie O’Connell is keeping secrets and as Trace begins to discover what they are, he’s no longer sure Maggie isn’t just vying for attention, as the police believe. Maggie is a feisty redheaded photographer who’s had more than her share of trouble and now that she’s met sexy Texas cowboy, Trace Rawlins, she’s only in for more.

[Manga Maniac Café] How did you come up with the concept and the characters your Raines of Wind Canyon series?

[Kat Martin] People ask me all the time where I get my ideas. The true answer is I have no idea. A little kernel pops into my head, then it grows. In this case, I thought that Jackson Raines needed some brothers and the next thing I knew there were two more Raines boys and they needed stories of their own.

[Manga Maniac Café] What do you find so appealing about cowboys?

[Kat Martin] Cowboys are the ultimate good guys. They have high moral values, they’re loyal and they’re tough. Add a sexy pair of boots and a cowboy hat, and cowboys are nearly irresistible. In fact, I’m married to one.

[Manga Maniac Café] What do you enjoy best about writing romances?

[Kat Martin] Escaping life’s problems for a while. I don’t have to think about bats or pack rats or leaky roofs or snow or any of the kind of problems you encounter in Montana. I don’t have to worry about what’s for supper (of course my hubby does most of the cooking so that’s not much of a problem). It’s purely a way to escape and it’s a major challenge that I can’t resist–fitting all the pieces and parts of a story together to make the puzzle fit.

[Manga Maniac Café] What are some fall releases that you are anticipating?

[Kat Martin] I’m not sure what’s coming. I just finished a new Cindy Gerard, which was great. I read Nora Roberts, whatever she has that’s new. I’m getting ready to read Jill Marie Landis’ new humorous mystery, Mai Tai One On. That should be great fun to read.

[Manga Maniac Café] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Kat Martin] I just got back from 30 days of camping in Alaska–that was truly roughing it. I like the outdoors. I also love luxury and am looking forward to a couple of days in a plush suite in Las Vegas in November. And gourmet restaurants–yes!

[Manga Maniac Café] List 5 things that you will never find in a cowboy’s pickup truck.

[Kat Martin] An Armani suit

A power tie

A lacy pink thong (unless it’s under his seat)

A bicycle helmet

A cello

[Manga Maniac Café] Thank you!
