Summer Reading Trends

This summer I have found myself veering completely away from my normal reading material.  After finishing The Hunger Games trilogy, I needed something that didn’t require much thought.  Something not so dark and grim.  Something where the protagonists didn’t have to worry about getting enough food and water to survive or worry about being murdered on the next page.  Then this heat wave settled in, and I didn’t want to read anything that required a lot of thought. I wanted something with a formula and an ending I could depend on to be happy.  I went back to an old, old staple of mine – Harlequin Romances.  After reading them for two weeks, I am finally ready to tackle a book that may not have a happy ending.

This change in my reading trends has me wondering if anyone else has shifted their reading patterns this summer.  The heat is stifling, and it looks like this will be one of the hottest summers on record.  Has this blast of 90 and 100 degree temperatures changed your reading preferences?

How about you?  Have you changed your reading habits this summer?

That’s so funny — I just put up my summer reading list and it’s absolutely amazing how diverse my list is! It includes all types of YA to romance to urban fantasy to dystopian/post-apocalyptic to chick lit. *sigh* It all makes me so happy. Don’t you just love summer reading?

I don’t think it’s the summer that has changed my reading habits so much as it is being a book blogger. My reading of YA books has become so diverse! I have one of everything in my TBR, historical fiction, paranormal, high fantasy, contemporary, fairy tale retellings, dystopian, etc… It’s crazy. I love it!
