Teaser Tuesday–Catching Fire and Magickeepers

I can’t officially start reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins until tomorrow, which is the first day of my vacation.  I thought I would share the first two sentences of the book anyway, because I am so geeked to read it.  I am actually showing a remarkable sense of restraint by packing this in my luggage and trying to pretend that it doesn’t exist.

I clasp the flask between my hands even though the warmth from the tea has long since leached into the frozen air. My muscles are clenched tight against the cold.

Until then, I am reading Magickeepers Book Three: The Chalice of Immortality by Erica Kirov.  I’m kind of taking a leap of faith with this one, because I haven’t read the first books in the trilogy.  Let’s see how that works out for me – it’s a bit like a science experiment, only with books.

Nick Rostov and his cousin Isabella sat at their tidy desks in class.  Their distant cousin and teacher Theo peered down his nose at them.  He pointed a finger, and their test papers glided through the air to settle on their desks with a near-silent whoosh.

“F’s. Both of you.”

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
