Armchair BEA–Why I’m Here Instead of There

Ah, BEA, also known as Book Expo America, is a book lover’s wet dream.  Free books for the taking, authors galore, and an opportunity to rub shoulders with both readers and professionals in the industry.  It’s the Mecca of book bloggers and book lovers.  I want to go so badly that BEA has eclipsed my burning desire to go to San Diego Comicon.  I had fully intended to hit BEA this year.  I registered and even made hotel reservations.  Then my BF had a life threatening illness and it suddenly didn’t seem so important any more.  After he got back on his feet, I kind of talked myself back into going.  Then the date of one our horse shows changed, so BEA was once again out of reach for me.  This year.  But I am going next year!

Instead of sitting around this week, moping and thinking about what might have been, I decided that I will make the best of things by participating in Armchair BEA.  I didn’t know about it last year, so I was happy to learn about it on Twitter.  I am going to devote most of the posting this week to BEA.  I have a few interviews with authors I would have liked to meet at BEA, and I’ll post up any interesting news that I hear about, too.

For new visitors, I usually review YA/MG novels, in addition to graphic novels.  I also got totally hooked on Harlequin series romances again, probably because I can count on a feel good ending, as well as a story that is wrapped up in one volume.  While most of what I read falls into those categories, I enjoy reading almost everything but non-fiction.   I read to escape, so non-fiction just just doesn’t fit the bill for me.

If you found me through Armchair BEA, please let me know so I can hop over and say “Hi” on your blog, too!

So unfortunate you weren’t able to make it to BEA this year, but I am so happy to hear that your boyfriend is doing okay. ARC’s and awesome bloggers are brilliant, but health trumps all those. But FYI: I’m totally sneaking in your suitcase next year!!

I’m participating in Armchair BEA too! I’m an old follower though, but I LOVE your blog! And I have to say, your blog button is so cool. That unicorn is all kinds of crazy awesome :D

I don’t normally read graphic novels or manga, and I think I really have only read one graphic novel. Any recommendations? Happy Armchair BEA!

I hope everything is getting better with your BF. I can relate, my husbands illness, though not life threatening is bank account draining, hence me sitting here is Las Vegas and not in NYC :) But I am really excited to participate in Armchair BEA bc I get to meet great bloggers like you! I love your blog and I’m your newest follower :)

Life-threatening illnesses do have a way of altering your point of view, don’t they? I’m sorry you didn’t make it but happy to hear your BF has recovered. I’m considering next year, too. I’ve always been a little afraid to meet fellow bloggers, but now that I’ve met a couple I want to meet *everyone*! Hope you enjoy Armchair BEA!

I’m kind of moping about not going to BEA. I found out last week that I actually had 6.5 days of vacation left until the end of June but by then it was too late to arrange everything. So next year definitely! And I still have the Anime Festival this year so all is good :-)
