Musing Mondays–Kid’s Books

This week’s musing asks…

Do you have a favorite children’s book? Either one that you loved as a child, or one that you discovered later, and still enjoy? Tell us about it!

When I was a kid, my favorite book was The Story About Ping.  It’s about a duckling that lives on a boat on the Yangtze River with his large family.  Every evening, the man who owns the ducks gives the last duck to board  the riverboat a spanking.  One day, when it is clear that Ping will be the last duck to board, he decides instead to run away.  The book follows his misadventures, and he learns that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

I had the book and the audio recording, and I listened to it all the time!  I can’t remember too much about it now, so I am actually going to see if the library has it so I can take a journey down Memory Lane.

As an adult, I discovered another picture book that I love:  Skippyjon Jones.  The first book is crack-tastic.  I don’t know why I find it so funny, but every time I read it, I can’t help but start rolling on the ground with laughter.  It is a book that I will read aloud, laughing the entire time.  My BF groans when he sees a new adventure on the table, because he knows I ‘m going to read it to him, and he isn’t as amused with little Skippyjon Jones and his great, big dreams as I am.

What are some of your favorite children’s books?  There are so many good ones on the shelf right now!  I need to make another visit to the library and check out another armful!
