FIVE Challenge – FIVE Great Series

Today’s FIVE Challenge, which is hosted by Adele of Persnickety Snark, is FIVE Great Series.  This is actually a tough one, because while I read many, many introductory books for series this year, I haven’t read many beyond the first book!

The Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey – What can I say? I am a sucker for the action, suspense, and romance.  I just love these books!

Ridgeview Riding Club by Bernadette Kelly – I am enjoying this MG series about a young girl who finally gets a horse of her own.  It’s one of the most accurate series about what owning a horse is really like, too!

Need by Carrie Jones – This is one of the first YA novels that I read when I started branching off from graphic novels.  It’s a fun read with my new favorite supernatural beings – pixies!

Kekkaishi by Yellow Tanabe – My favorite manga series right now.  Love the humor, the characters, the pacing, the art.  Everything about it just keeps getting better.

7 Billion Needles by Nobuaki Tadano – This series came out of absolutely nowhere and smacked me over the head.  Great art, a heroine you can’t help but like, and scary aliens.

Rasetsu by Chika Shiomi – Yeah, yeah, yeah, I gush about this one all the time.  I can’t help myself.  I love it!  There’s lots of tense encounters with ghosts, great bursts of humor to ease the mood, and a love triangle that is threatening to get very, very complicated.  Read it if you haven’t given it a chance!

Honorable Mention –

Heist Society by Ally Carter – My first introduction to Carter’s writing, and I was transfixed.  My mom liked this one, too, and she almost never reads YA.  I can hardly wait for the next one!  I seriously need to read the Gallagher Girls.

Gantz by Hiroya Oku  & Biomega by Tsutomu Nihei – Both of these books are really outside of my comfort zone because of the intense levels of violence, but I keep going back for more.

Goong by Park SoHee – Wonderful soap opera set in an alternate Korea.

Bride of the Water God by Mi-Kyung Yun – Pretty, pretty, pretty.  Sometimes that’s all you need.

Well, you never fail to surprise me. Haven’t heard of most of these, but they sound good. And I’m glad to see Heist Society in your HM because I was pretty transfixed right away too, and it was my first time reading Carter.

    Great picks.

@Missie – A lot of them are graphic novels. I haven’t read many YA series yet, but there are so many GN series that I follow. Too many, probably – lol

I love Carrie Jones! I haven’t read any of the others, but she’s a favorite.

Nice to see some love for Rasetsu. Not enough people appreciate it, despite the fact that it is totally awesome :D

I’ve just started watching the Kekkaishi anime recently and I loved it. I liked what you said about the manga, so I’ll probably pick it up sometime :-)
