On My Wishlist – Alcestis, Hand of Isis, Book of a Thousand Days

On My Wishlist is a fun weekly event hosted at Book Chick City and runs every Saturday. It’s a way to share your wishlist with the rest of the blogsphere. The books can be old, new or forthcoming, but my lists will be limited to already released titles. If you would like to join in and post your wishlist,  click here for more information.

I have been reminded of how much I enjoy books set in ancient Greece, so Alcestis by Katharine Beutner comes along at a good time.  I really want this book!

From Amazon:

In Greek myth, Alcestis is known as the ideal wife; she loved her husband so much that she died and went to the underworld in his place. In this vividly-imagined debut, Katharine Beutner gives voice to the woman behind the ideal and reveals the part of the story that’s never been told: What happened to Alcestis in the three days she spent in the underworld?

Oh, and lookie here!  A novel set in another of my favorite time periods, Ancient Egypt!! The Hand of Isis by Jo Graham is right up  my alley.

From Amazon:

Following her acclaimed debut, Jo Graham returns to the ancient world with a novel that will captivate lovers of fantasy, history and romance.

Set in Ancient Egypt, Hand of Isis is the story of Charmian, a handmaiden, and her two sisters. It is a novel of lovers who transcend death, of gods who meddle in mortal affairs, and of women who guide empires.

Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale is a fairy tale retelling, and you all know that I can’t resist those.

From Amazon:

When Dashti, a maid, and Lady Saren, her mistress, are shut in a tower for seven years for Saren’s refusal to marry a man she despises, the two prepare for a very long and dark imprisonment.

As food runs low and the days go from broiling hot to freezing cold, it is all Dashti can do to keep them fed and comfortable. But the arrival outside the tower of Saren’s two suitors—one welcome, and the other decidedly less so—brings both hope and great danger, and Dashti must make the desperate choices of a girl whose life is worth more than she knows.

With Shannon Hale’s lyrical language, this forgotten but classic fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm is reimagined and reset on the central Asian steppes; it is a completely unique retelling filled with adventure and romance, drama and disguise.

I do love history, fantasy, romance and also would need a Kindle unless the book comes in PB form but agree with you Julie that “Hand Of Isis” sounds like a great adventure to read! Hope you get all three of your picks soon!

I have several things going this month at my place and one of them is My Wishlist post if you would like to stop by and check it out.. Also have several contests and my first Author guest post today!

Hand of Isis is on my wishlist, I think. If it isn’t, I will add it. I must also add the Shannon Hale novel.

Here’s what I’m wishing for this week.
