Waiting on Wednesday – The Line,Venus in Love, & Cactus’s Secret

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

The Line by Terri Hall looks like a very suspenseful read.  This will be in stores March 4, 2010.

From Amazon:

An invisible, uncrossable physical barrier encloses the Unified States. The Line is the part of the border that lopped off part of the country, dooming the inhabitants to an unknown fate when the enemy used a banned weapon. It’s said that bizarre creatures and superhumans live on the other side, in Away. Nobody except tough old Ms. Moore would ever live next to the Line.

Nobody but Rachel and her mother, who went to live there after Rachel’s dad died in the last war. It’s a safe, quiet life. Until Rachel finds a mysterious recorded message that can only have come from Away. The voice is asking for help.

Who sent the message? Why is her mother so protective? And to what lengths is Rachel willing to go in order to do what she thinks is right?

Venus in Love by Yuki Nakaji is an underappreciated gem.  I love this slice of life story about cheerful college student Suzuna and her friends.

From Amazon:

College freshman Suzuna is living on her own for the first time, and discovering that finding love can be much more complicated than she imagined. Suzuna’s had her heart set on Fukami, the tennis player, but she’s been afraid to share her feelings. Now Fukami’s out with another girl, and they seem to be turning into a steady couple. Is it too late for Suzuna to make her move? She finds herself spending more time with Eichi, the guy who also has a secret crush on Fukami. But a surprising development leaves the two of them with confused feelings about each other. Just when Suzuna thought things couldn’t get more complicated…they do!

Volume 8 will be in bookstores February 23, 2010

Cactus’s Secret is a new Viz series by Nana Haruta.

From the Viz website:

Miku Yamada has a longtime crush on classmate Kyohei Fujioka. But no matter how many times she tries to show him how she feels, clueless Kyohei just doesn’t get it. Frustrated, Miku gives up on him, only to have him start calling her "Cactus" for being prickly when he’s around. Will Kyohei ever figure out Cactus’s secret?
Miku decides to try telling Kyohei her feelings by giving him chocolates for Valentine’s Day. But Kyohei, unaware that he’s the object of her affection, offers himself up as a practice partner for her love confession. Can Miku get through to him that he’s the one she loves?

Cactus’s Secret Volume 1 will be in stores March 1.

What are you waiting for?
