The battle with Goryo and clownish Ebisu wrapped up, and I wasn’t expecting the ending.  Needless to say, Goryo and his henchman will do anything to win, even put Nana in harm’s way.  Muhyo is not the most sympathetic guy in manga, but next to Goryo, he seems like Gandhi.  That is until Muhyo turns his critical eye toward Roji and promptly places him on leave.

Roji immediately begins to wallow in self-pity, wondering how he’s going to be able to help save Rio if he’s on an extended vacation.  Imai takes him under her wing, though she dishes out some harsh words, too.  Roji is the type of guy who is always fretting and worrying, constantly questioning his self-worth.  When the chips are down, he performs well under pressure, but he never seems to be able to remember that.  He’s capable and hard-working, but he is always down on himself, with makes it easy for others to dismiss him and his abilities.  Now he’s going to get a crash course in Magic 101 – will he accept that he is as capable as Muhyo when it’s all over?

There’s a flashback to Muhyo and Roji’s first meeting, and neither one of them has changed much in the last two years.  Muhyo can be so smug and painfully blunt, and Roji is still as over anxious as he was during his job interview with Muhyo.  Though, frankly, had that little onion-headed snot glared at me that contemptuously, I would have taken my resume elsewhere.  Maybe Roji isn’t such a coward afterall?
