Gantz Vol 2 by Hiroya Oku Manga Review

I don’t know what it is about this series, but I couldn’t put this volume down either.  It’s grossly over exaggerated violence normally wouldn’t appeal to me, nor would the blatant fan-service, yet here I am, wondering when the next installment will hit bookstores.  There’s still not much of a story – just gallons of blood, chunks of exploding flesh, and limbs flying in every direction.  Ick.

Kurono and Kato are up against a very pissed off, very dangerous alien monster that has just annihilated most of the other confused people from the mystery room.  They didn’t last long and certainly didn’t put up much of a fight, instead becoming grotesquely mutilated corpses in surprising short order.  Kurono and Kato still don’t know what the hell is going on, and they certainly don’t understand all of the gibberish about an onion.  Big, ugly dude, just take your freaking onion and die!

Like Kurono, I have no clue what is going on here, but the bursts of action are compelling, in a driving by an accident sort of way.  You can’t help but wonder what is going on, and you find yourself staring at the pages in spite of yourself.  While Kurono and Kato are able to at least take an active part in the excitement,  Kishimoto exists only to display her large breasts and provide the occasional fan service.  Will she ever get to do anything other than bounce her boobs around?
