I’m a little torn about this volume.  On the one hand, it was great hanging out with Yuri and Kail again for about 200 pages.  On the other, tired and overused plot lines were rehashed, which kind of tried my patience.  How many times can Nakia’s dark water be used to spy on Yuri and Kail?  By now they should recognize those vacant stares, and know that they mean trouble.  At least Ilbani was clever, and he didn’t give Nakia’s henchman an opportunity to ruin the good guys’ plans for her downfall.  Oh, how I’m counting the panels until she gets what’s coming to her.

Kail and Yuri are reunited, and they make up for lost time.  They were even allowed to spend some uninterrupted cuddle time together.  How many books has it been since they were together?  Too many!  Even though I like Ramses, there’s just a hotness about Kail that is lacking in the other man.  I think it has something to do with their choice of jewelry, but I might be wrong.

I thought the battle scenes were great, and I love how Yuri has taken ownership of her position in the army.  Yeah, it’s still pretty silly to believe that a teenage girl from modern Japan would be such an ace tactician, but, hey, maybe she is the reincarnation of  Ishtar.  I prefer to believe that her love for Kail has given her a strength that defies logic.  I also love the rivalry between Kail and Ramses, and though they didn’t get to go one on one in this volume, the day is fast approaching.  I hope.

Oh, and who would have ever thought that Kikkuri was such a playboy??
