Oh, darn that Tsukasa and his oni of a mother! After Tsukushi travels all the way to New York, spending almost all of her meager savings, her boyfriend coldly rejects her. Good thing that Rui Hanazawa came chasing after her, so she had a friendly shoulder to cry on. Boys just don’t make much sense, and rich ones, even less! When is Tsukasa going to grow a few and stand up to his dragon of a mother?
Rui and Tsukushi reconnect, enjoying a little sightseeing and even a kiss! Tsukushi is knocked for a loop when Rui impulsively kisses her, protesting that friends don’t do that. Even though she’s in love with Tsukasa, she still has feelings for Rui. He was her first love, after all. So what if he never returned her love because he was so hung up over Shizuka; it doesn’t take much for him to get her heart pounding again. Why couldn’t he have behaved like this before she fell in love with Tsukasa? I really like Rui, and think that Tsukushi would have a more uneventful life if she would just give up on high-maintenance Tsukasa. Having a relationship with him means getting a little too close to his nasty mother.
Ha! Speaking of his mother, Kaede finds herself indebted to Tsukushi, which had her just gnashing her teeth in frustration. The weed finally gets a one-up on the old hag! Tsukushi might come from a humble background, but she has her heart in the right place, and she’s really not one to hold a grudge. She puts all of the crappy things that Kaede’s done to her on the back burner and turns around and helps the Domyoji family when they desperately need it. Now who is the classier person? It’s way too much to hope that the evil matriarch will ever change, but this was fun twist anyway.
