Argh!  Somehow I missed this when it came out way back in November, and I didn’t realize until I had read the first few pages of volume 7.  I could tell right away that something was wrong, and I ended up kind of spoiling the ending of this volume.  I hate reading series out of order, which I blame on being anal, and I hate spoilers, so I try to avoid giving them myself.   Anyhoo, all is right in the world again, as I found a copy of volume 6 at a B&M bookstore, and I was able to catch up on Kenta’s misery and Karin’s embarrassments.

Things are certainly getting miserable for Kenta and his mom, as his grandmother has hired a detective to track them down.  I’m not sure why the old biddy has bothered, considering the awful way she treated her own daughter.  No wonder both Kenta and Fumio are such unhappy people!  And who is that seedy individual also looking for the unfortunate pair?  We finally got some background details about Fumio and her decision to become a single mom, but we still don’t know squat about Kenta’s dad.  It seems that Kenta wants to keep it that way, too.

In a effort to hide Kenta and his mother from the detective, Karin begs her parents to let them stay at the Maaka mansion.  They both reject the idea, and in Karin’s distress, she starts spewing blood everywhere – a nonstop river of blood which her parents blame on Kenta.  Poor guy never catches a break.  When Karin regains consciousness six days later, she’s forbidden from ever seeing Kenta again!  Now, while Karin is typically an obedient child, I just don’t understand why her parents would try a tactic like this.  Karin is fairly mild-mannered, but when there’s something that she feels she needs to do, she finds a strength inside herself to get it done.  Forbidding her from seeing the boy she is so obviously in love with just isn’t a winning proposition – one either side.  Her parents have never seemed extremely rational, though, so maybe this should have been expected.

This volume of Chibi-Vampire was full of agnsty drama, as Karin is confronted with the fear that her life will soon be without Kenta.  Kenta is trying to work out issues of his own as his past has come back to haunt him.  Will these new pressures finally tear them apart forever?
