Mining for Diamonds in the October 2007 Previews

Another month has flown by, and it’s time to take a look at some of the titles shipping in December.  December!  Snow, sleet, and slush means more time to read manga!

Zombie Fairy Vol 1 by Daisuke Torii – CMX/Flex – This is the first offering of CMX’s joint venture between DC Comics and Japanese pub, Flex Comix.  A coffin seems like a weird family heirloom, but the 400 year old Chinese girl that emerges from it certainly has my attention.

Tears of a Lamb Vol 1 by Banri Hidaka – CMX – Another Banri Hidaka series!  Kei is looking for something she lost, and it’s in Kanzaki’s apartment! With traumatic secrets to keep their relationship rocky, with their friendship blossom into more?

Walkin’ Butterfly Vol 2 by Chihiro Tamaki – Aurora – In case you missed the first volume, here’s your chance to grab the second.  Can Michiko come to terms with who she is, and become a successful model?

Purgatory Kabuki Vol 1 by Yasushi Suzuki – DR Master – This one looks awesome.  The art looks stunning, and I can never resist a good samurai story.  Imanotsurugi must claim 1000 swords from fallen warriors, or he can never leave the underworld.

Cute Beast by Amayo Tsuge – June/DMP – The cover is cute, and so is the title.   How can I resist?

Gakuen Alice Vol 1 by Tachibana Higuchi – TOKYOPOP – I’m a sucker for magical girl series, and this one looks so cute!  Mikan’s best friend heads off to a special school in Tokyo, and lonely, Mikan follows her.  Does she have a special ability that will allow her to be enrolled in Alice Academy?

VB Rose Vol 1 by Banri Hidaka – TOKYOPOP – I’m not too wild about the premise of this series – I’m having a hard time getting worked up about a wedding dress maker – but I loved Hidaka’s CMX title, I Hate You More Than Anyone, so I’m eager to give this a go.

Aria Vol 1 by Kozue Amano – TOKYOPOP - I really enjoyed the first volume of the prequel, Aqua, so I have high hopes for this title.  If it continues with the pretty artwork and dreamy pacing, it’s a winner.

Pearl Pink Vol 4 by Meca Tanaka – TOKYOPOP – Here’s your last chance to catch this series and it’s tomboyish heroine.  At only four volumes, it’s not a huge investment, and it’s a fun read, too!

Robot Vol 4 – UDON – In case you missed the news, Robot has been picked up by UDON, so you don’t have to miss any issues!

Magical JXR Vol 1 by Sun-Young Lee – UDON – Another series filled with magic and comedy.  Based on the UDON sampler I picked up at AX07, the art is a little cluttered, but I like character designs.  I’ll give it a go, because there can never be enough fantasy series out there.

Sand Chronicles Vol 1 by Hinako Ashihara – Viz – The chapter that I read in Shojobeat was gripping and emotional, so I can hardly wait to see this volume.  After Ann’s parents divorce, she and her mother move from Tokyo to a small town.  Ann must deal with a personal tragedy and learn to live in her new surroundings.

Skip Beat! Vol 10 by Yoshiki Nakamura – Viz – One of my favorite Viz titles, the characters make this book special.  Kyoko’s quest for revenge, aided by her inner demons,  against the boy she’s loved forever is funny and keeps the pages turning at a rapid pace. Check this one out!

High School Debut Vol 1 by Kazune Kawahara – Viz – Haruna, even after following the advice in fashion magazines, just can’t seem to snag herself a boyfriend.  She enlists upper-classman, Yoh, to be her coach, on the condition that she never falls in love with him. Sounds like a typical shoujo plot, which means I have to check out at least the first volume.

Dragon Sword and Wind Child by Noriko Ogiwara – Viz - If  you missed it in the Aug Previews, here’s another chance to order this title.  I just read it, and I dug it.  Review here.

Reflections: The Artwork of KOSEN – Yaoi Press – Pretty boys in pretty pictures.  This one is worth a look or three.
