The dungeon quest continues! Asta, Yuno, and their companions defeat Mars and enter the treasure hall – only to be attacked by Mars again! Will they survive their mission?
About half of this volume focuses on the battle with Mars and completing their mission in the dungeon. Mars’ magic has been enhanced with magic crystals, and unlike the Magic Knights, he can use more than one kind elemental magic. Oh, dear, he’s a tough opponent! Both Yuno and Asta get a magical enhancement of their own, thanks to the treasure in the dungeon. This is a wild melee, and after Noelle is targeted for special attention from Mars, Asta’s protective urges are kicked into overdrive.
Some new bonds are forged between the Magic Knights, and Klaus is forced to re-evaluate his stance on peasants in the Magic Knights after both Yuno and Asta save his bacon – repeatedly. They are both so much more powerful than he is, and while he is more disciplined, they could crush him like a bug. Even in his magic-less state, Asta embodies what a Magic Knight ought to be far better than Klaus ever will.
After recovering from his injuries, Asta is invited to meet his idol, the Wizard King. Only the clueless boy doesn’t realize it’s the Wizard King. I guess they don’t have social media so not everyone knows what celebrities look like. Both Asta and Yuno learn that developing a reputation is key if they really want to be the next Wizard King, and just like that, the competition is on again. Who will shine the brightest in their quest to achieve their goals?
I was really disappointed with the rest of Magic Knights, especially Noelle’s family. They talk trash about little sis and the peasants, and openly mock Asta for having no manners or a noble lineage. When the hate-fest is interrupted by a horde of attacking zombies, it’s Asta to the rescue. While the others plot and plan, he leaps into action, heedless of danger or forethought. That’s our boy! I can hardly wait to see him kick ass, and hopefully make some of the snotty nobles eat some humble pie.
