[Manga Maniac Café] Good morning, Lea!
[Lea Nolan] Thanks so much for having me, I’m delighted to be here!
[Manga Maniac Café] Describe yourself in five words or less.
[Lea Nolan] Introverted, analytical, funny, warm, loyal.
[Manga Maniac Café] Can you tell us a little about His Billion Dollar Baby?
[Lea Nolan] This is my debut contemporary romance and I couldn’t be more thrilled. Up to now, I’ve written young adult fantasy, which I love, but this was a chance to branch out and write about grown ups, and dare I say it, sexy times.
[Manga Maniac Café] Can you share your favorite scene?
[Lea Nolan] I don’t want to be too spoilerly, but I love the book’s final climax because it’s so over-the-top romantic it brings happy tears to my eyes and makes me giggle. It features the kind of dramatic, grand gesture that would make me swoon, so I’ve got to figure readers will love it, too.
[Manga Maniac Café] What gave you the most trouble with the story?
[Lea Nolan] I’d say the toughest thing for me to switch gears from the huge world-building of fantasy to the smaller, more romance and relationship-based world of contemporary romance. By nature, I’m a plotty writer, and I like to build a lot of subplots around the main characters, but that doesn’t work in contemporary romance, especially in a category-length novel. So I quickly learned to rein it in and focus just on Gwen and Carter’s budding romance.
[Manga Maniac Café] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?
[Lea Nolan] My iPhone. It’s my lifeline to the world and I’d be lost without it.
[Manga Maniac Café] Name three things on your desk right now.
[Lea Nolan] Ha! Besides my iPhone, there’s my laptop and ever-present Panera ice tea.
[Manga Maniac Café] If you could trade places with anyone for just one day, who would you be?
[Lea Nolan] I’m going to bend the rules a little to answer this, but here goes: I’d switch places with my much younger self so I could spend the day with my dearly departed mother. I’d give almost anything for just one more day to hang out with her, whether it was to go shopping, have lunch, or just sit in her room talking about small, mundane things.
[Manga Maniac Café] You have been granted the use of one superpower for one week. Which power would you choose, and what would you do with it?
[Lea Nolan] I’d definitely want the power to de-materialize and transport myself from place to place. It would make commuting so much easier and would reduce (though maybe not eradicate) my tendency to be late. Is transportation considered a super power, or just a Star Trek power? If it’s not an official super power, I think someone should propose it to the Justice League and make them vote it in.
[Manga Maniac Café] What are some books that you enjoyed recently?
[Lea Nolan] Oh, I’ve been on quite a contemporary romance binge lately. Here are a few of my recent favorites, although there are so many more I could have selected, too:
Taste the Heat by Rachel Harris, a great, sweet Southern romance set in New Orleans that features a spunky Cajun chef and a hot fire captain. What more could you ask for?
Passionate Persuasion by Rosemary Clement Moore which features some of the best flirty banter I’ve read in a long time.
Tempted by the Soldier by Nicolette Day is full of steamy-forced-proximity hotness with a Marine. Need I say more?
Finally, I’m a huge fan of the Hard Ink series by Laura Kaye who just happens to be my best friend but also is one of the most gifted writers I’ve ever encountered. If you’re looking for hot, tattooed ex-military alpha heroes on a mission, she’s got you covered.
[Manga Maniac Café] How can readers connect with you?
[Lea Nolan] I love to connect with readers on Facebook and will always answer folks on Twitter. I’ve recently joined Instagram which is super fun, too but I’m still learning so please don’t be mad at me if I can’t figure out how to follow you back right away. I promise I will!
Thanks so much for having me, this was a lot of fun!
