[Manga Maniac Cafe] Good morning, Caroline! Describe yourself in five words or less.
[Caroline] Seems to have it all.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share a typical day in your life?
[Caroline] Since my cousin/companion/friend, Frances, married last year, my typical day has changed. I used to laze about while she handled my correspondence. Callers would visit in the afternoon, and Frannie would make sure everyone was comfortable while I chatted. In the evening, a ball during the season or a card party during the quieter months. I did not, and do not, care to be alone.
Without Frannie, I’m alone far more than I would wish. Would you expect that of me, one of the ton’s most popular widows? But I think—I know—they care more for my money than me.
Never mind that. I should not have said that. A typical day? Why—one with a party, of course! And many callers, and flowers, and a new gown to wear in the evening if I am fortunate.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words come to mind when you think of Michael?
[Caroline] Stubborn. SO Stubborn.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Why is the idea of marrying again so disagreeable to you?
[Caroline] Whyever would I wish to marry again? I have control over my own fortune, and any suitor would wish to take that from me. Indeed, it’s the reason they all court me. I smile at them and accept their flowers, but I would much prefer they be honest about what they were after.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could change one thing you’ve done in your life, what would it be?
[Caroline] I would not change anything. Some parts of my life have been difficult: I shouldered into society with no fortune; I’ve survived a scandal featuring a Duke Who Shall Not Be Named; I married for gain. Everything I have, I scraped through and won with my wits and charm and the good fortune of a pretty face. I would not take away from the present by changing my past.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?
[Caroline] I used never to leave home without Frannie, who was the one person I could always count on for honesty and frankness. I’ve no one to trust now but myself, so I suppose I never leave home without taking a long and searching look in the glass first. I have a reputation to maintain, and that includes keeping up the right appearance.
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share your dreams for the future in five words or less.
[Caroline] More of the same…maybe?
[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!
Can a reclusive duke…
