Interview with Robyn Rychards, Author of Her Knight in Shining Armour

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Good morning, Robyn!  Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Robyn Rychards] Mother, voracious reader, and writer.  Does ‘and’ count as one of the words? Because that doesn’t really describe me.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Her Knight in Shining Armour?

[Robyn Rychards] Her Knight in Shining Armour has what I always enjoy when I’m reading; romance with a dash of suspense and action to throw the hero and heroine together.  And admit it Ladies, we all dream of having a wonderful man rescue us from something.  So how could I not write a story where the hero saves the heroine?  However, all things being equal, she has to rescue him as well.  Therefore, in Her Knight in Shining Armour, Sterling rescues Paisley from physical danger but Paisley does some rescuing of her own when she saves Sterling from life in an emotional wasteland.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Robyn Rychards] This is a very hard question for me because most of it happens without conscious thought.  The idea was sparked by another book I read and in the process of figuring out how to transform the idea into a story, the characters just emerged.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

[Robyn Rychards] I really enjoyed spending time with Sterling and Paisley, but I also enjoyed the road trip through Rocky Mountain National Park to Grand Lake to refresh my memory of it all and make sure I got the details right.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What gave you the most trouble with this story?

[Robyn Rychards] It would have to be the suspense aspect of it.  Though there isn’t much relatively speaking, it was a little intimidating for me as it’s something I didn’t think I had the skill for.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had a theme song, what would it be?

[Robyn Rychards] I’ll be honest, I had to ask my kids for help with this one.  I’ve never really thought about it before, but now that I have, I want it to be Shania Twain’s I Feel Like a Woman

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?

[Robyn Rychards] My favorite pen

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name three things on your desk right now.

[Robyn Rychards] A Harlequin Romance, a coffee cup and pictures of my kidlets.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could trade places with anyone for just one day, who would you be?

[Robyn Rychards] Elizabeth Bennet on her wedding day.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are some books that you enjoyed recently?

[Robyn Rychards] Right now I’m reading Janet Evanovich’s Full House, after having finished Dana Marton’s Deathtrap and before that, Ally Blake’s The Dance Off

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Robyn Rychards] Why, read, of course!  But to keep myself from being too boring, I like to watch football and movies.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Robyn Rychards] You can look me up on Facebook at Robyn Rychards or on Twitter @RobynRychards and I also have a website,

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

About the book:

She may not need a knight in shining armour to save her, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to look a gift knight in the visor…

Paisley doesn’t need a knight in shining armour to rescue her from her high-powered, abusive ex-husband. She’s got it covered on her own: she’s changed her name, liquidated her assets, and has a plan to disappear in the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Psychiatrist Sterling James has absolutely no intention of being anyone’s saviour. The only woman he has any time for is his sister. But circumstances change when Sterling finds Paisley in an unexpected and life-threatening situation. Brought in to the drama of her escape, Sterling finds himself invested, and he can’t move on until he knows Paisley is going to be safe.

It should be a simple enough exercise to get Paisley out of the park and into her new life. But nothing is ever as simple as it should be, and Sterling soon discovers that even if her ex-husband buys the set-up, he might not be able to watch Paisley go…
