Interview with Elizabeth Michels, Author of Must Love Dukes and Giveaway!

Please welcome Elizabeth Michels to the virtual offices this morning!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Elizabeth Michels] I’m a picker. I’m a grinner. I’m a lover and I’m a sinner…oh wait, that’s Steve Miller, not me. I’m an effervescent, short girl in heels. *waves hello to everyone* Thank you for having me over for the day!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you for getting up so early to chat with us!  Can you tell us a little about Must Love Dukes?

[Elizabeth Michels] Must Love Dukes is a Regency Romance about a Mad Duke set on revenge and the straight-laced, old maid who stole from him. Devon Grey, Duke of Thornwood is furious when he wakes up after a one night stand to discover Lily is gone, along with his new pocket watch. When he sees her a year later in a crowded ballroom, a plan hatches in his mind—a plan that will turn London upside-down before it’s over. Lily is being forced to marry against her will, but every vile gentleman placed before her makes the Duke who is blackmailing her look more and more appealing. When Lily’s brothers finally force an unwanted betrothal upon her, will Devon choose to abandon his own future and truly forgive her before it’s too late?

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Elizabeth Michels] Lily arrived on the scene first while I was washing my hair one day. I ran for pen and paper with my hair still dripping wet. She’s fighting to hold on to the family’s heirlooms while her brothers are busy selling everything they can to the highest bidder—including her. It seems like even today disputes over inheritance can drive deep wedges into families. It was a topic of conversation in my family when I began writing Must Love Dukes. Whispers in hospital room corners turned into Lily’s struggle with her siblings. And the rest of the story unfolded from there. As for the Mad Duke of Thornwood, he’s a Mad Duke! Are heroes made of better stuff than that? I don’t think so. *grins*

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had a theme song, what would it be?

[Elizabeth Michels] “Pink” by Aerosmith. I envision fans blowing my hair back as I make a grand entrance into a room… This has never happened to me, but a girl can dream.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing you won’t leave home without.

[Elizabeth Michels] Lipstick. I have fare skin, and I’m well aware of how near death I can look when I don’t wear lipstick. My favorite color? Hussy by Merle Norman—mostly because it’s called “Hussy.”

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name three things on your desk right now.

[Elizabeth Michels] My pink glasses, my e-reader and the sparkly stickers I always use when plotting the next book…and my phone, but then I picked it up to take this picture.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name some books that you enjoyed recently?

[Elizabeth Michels] I’ve been knee deep in writing the third book in the Tricks of the Ton series recently, but I’m looking forward to reading No Good Duke Goes Unpunished by Sarah MacLean and Rumor Has It by Jill Shalvis now that my deadlines are met…along with many others. I have some reading to do and I can’t wait!

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Elizabeth Michels] 99% of the time I have some sort of home renovation project going on at my house. Whether I’m painting walls, ripping apart cabinetry or planting flowers in the yard to kill later in the year, I spend a lot of my time working on my house. My husband, son and I moved to a new house a few months ago and proceeded to dismantle it and put it back together, so you would think this phase of my life would be over. But, I love watching something transform, become clean, new and beautiful. I don’t think I’ll ever consider my house done, because then I wouldn’t have any fun projects.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Elizabeth Michels] Most days I can be found on Twitter. I’m @southerntart and I chat about life, books, shoes and anything else that crosses my mind. I hope I’ll see you there! I also haunt Facebook when I should be working. Find me at Links to my Goodreads page, G+ page and blog can be found on my website.

Thank you for letting me stop by today! I’d love to hear from you.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

The Mad Duke leaned in closer, his lips gently brushing her ear, and whispered, “I dare you.”

She Can’t Resist the Dare…

Lillian Phillips could not imagine how her quiet, simple life had come to this. Blackmailed by the Mad Duke of Thornwood into accepting one wild dare after another…all because of a pocket watch. Desperate to recover her beloved father’s pawned timepiece, Lily did something reckless and dangerous and delicious—something that led to a night she’d never forget.

He has a Reputation for Scandal…

When Devon Grey, Duke of Thornwood, runs into a mesmerizing, intoxicating, thieving woman who literally stole from his bedchamber—with his new pocket watch—Devon plots his revenge. If the daring wench likes to play games, he’s happy to oblige. After all, what’s the ruse of being the Mad Duke if you can’t have some fun? But the last laugh might just be on him…

Elizabeth Michels grew up on a Christmas tree farm in rural South Carolina. I read this book as an ARC and I absolutely loved it! I prefer romance that is a bit more light hearted and witty. Something of an enjoyable escape from the weight of every day life. This book delivers in droves. I can tell that Elizabeth Michels writes character driven works. I found myself laughing and crying while following Lilly and Devon through their discovery of not only each other, but also of their true nature. I must admit that I read so many books I find myself outside them at times, this one I was buried in from start to finish.
I am already tracking the next ARC Desperately Seeking Suzanna on NetGalley and hope that I get a chance to read and review it as well. If you enjoy fun, light hearted love stories that don’t get too full of themselves then I would highly recommend this book.

I read a great review on Desperately Seeking Suzanna. I rushed to see if it was out yet only to discover it isn’t. The blogger recommended that I read the first in the series, which just happened to be Must Love Dukes. I admit, while I heard of Must Love Dukes, I wasn’t aware there was a second book and even a third!

Thank you for the interview. I had a fun time reading it.
