Interview Dani Kristoff, Author of Bespelled

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Good morning, Dani! Welcome to the Manga Maniac Café!  Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Dani Kristoff] Hopeless romantic. Bit of a dreamer.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Bespelled?

[Dani Kristoff] Bespelled is a light, fun paranormal romance with a drop dead gorgeous hero, Jake, and a delightful witch called Elena, who have problems with a love spell gone wrong. It set is one of my favourite places, Balmain in Sydney.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Dani Kristoff] I got the idea for this story at my first RWA conference in the Gold Coast. On a panel, an editor said she’d like to see more stories about witches and then the idea burnt a hole in my head. I had the plan done by the time I got home to Canberra. The characters were there from the beginning. I was a big fan of Bewitched when I was growing up.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

[Dani Kristoff] Well…the sex scenes to be honest. Elena battling her morals in not wanting to take advantage of Jake and his single minded way of breaking down her defences. I had fun with writing the characters, particularly Fel.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had a theme song, what would it be?

[Dani Kristoff] The Greatest Love of All by Whitney Houston. It took me a long time to believe in myself, to love who I was.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing you won’t leave home without.

[Dani Kristoff] My iphone! But sometimes I do and I’m lost without it.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name three things on your desk right now.

[Dani Kristoff] My iphone, my lap top and a cup of tea.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name some books that you enjoyed recently.

[Dani Kristoff] Rake’s Midnight Kiss by Anna Campbell, Aurora:Darwin by Amanda Bridgeman. Ugly by Robert Hoge, King Hall by Scarlett Dawn.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Dani Kristoff] I  watch DVDs, usually SF/Action adventure, fantasy or historicals like Pride and Prejudice (many versions). I’ve just taken up weaving as I can’t knit due to RSI. Cooking and being with my family and friends.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Dani Kristoff] I have a blog, Facebook and Twitter accounts

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

About the book:

This isn’t your mum’s Bewitched…

Elena Denholm is a mild-mannered half witch. As a favour to her cousin, she agrees to meet with top Sydney lawyer, Jake Royston, to negotiate a property deal. Sparks fly immediately, but before they can even take a sip of wine, let alone explore where the sizzle might go, Jake is hit by a love spell and is helpless against his feelings for Elena.

Jake may be at her mercy, but Elena is keeping her hands off — exploiting humans is a no-no. But Jake’s good looks and powers of persuasion are breaking down her resolve, and Elena knows she must do something fast.

Desperate to set things right before her resolve crumbles, Elena begins a frantic search to find the witch or warlock who hexed Jake and return him to his right mind, even if it means breaking her own heart…
