Cover Shot! Flirting with Texas by Katie Lane

Cover Shot! is a regular feature here at the Café.  I love discovering new covers, and when I find them, I like to share.  More than anything else, I am consumed with the mystery that each new discovery represents.  There is an allure to a beautiful cover.  Will the story contained under the pages live up to promise of the gorgeous cover art?

As I head off to the horse show today, I wonder – why, why, WHY don’t the cowboys I see there look the cowboy I see here?  WHY?

In stores July 2013

On her own in the Big Apple, Jenna Jay Scroggs can handle herself when trouble arises. But when she tries to rescue a horse, the passionate do-gooder ends up on a runaway Central Park carriage ride with a hunky stranger. With his sexy drawl and well-worn Levis, Beauregard Cates is doing his darnedest to make Jenna homesick for the small western town she’s spent years trying to forget. And it’s working: She’s dangerously close to falling head over boot heels for the rugged rodeo star with hair the color of moonshine.

Beau came to the big city to escape his past and live life to the fullest. Yet the leggy blonde with eyes as blue as a western sky causes a real hitch in his giddy-up. So when the well-meaning folks of Bramble plot to bring Jenna home, Beau will need to convince her that she won’t ever get Texas out of her blood – or one good-time, ever-lovin’ cowboy out of her heart.

Now the fragile coexistence of witches, daemons, vampires and humans is dangerously threatened.

Seeking safety, Diana and Matthew travel back in time to London, 1590. But they soon realise that the past may not provide a haven. Reclaiming his former identity as poet and spy for Queen Elizabeth, the vampire falls back in with a group of radicals known as the School of Night. Character Interview: Nathaniel Colton from Connie Mason and Mia Marlowe’s One Night With a Rake and Giveaway!

Please welcome Nathaniel Colton, the hero of Connie Mason and Mia Marlowe’s One Night with a Rake.  After Nathaniel charms your pants off, be sure to enter to win a copy of Waking Up With a Rake!  Mia has a special giveaway for International readers, too!  Read the interview for details.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in five words or less.

[Nathaniel] Incorrigible. That says it all.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share a typical day in the life of Nathaniel Colton?

[Nathaniel] Dawn finds me in search of my bed, not that I may not have found someone else’s before that. I rise when I’m rested and head for White’s for a game of poque. Don’t make that tsking noise! It’s not gambling when one consistently wins. My evenings are spent in riotous living. The charm of wearing myself out with mindless hedonism is that it leaves no opportunity for thoughts of Anne’s death to creep in. I despise maudlin people and what could be more maudlin than a man who cannot forget his first love?

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words come to mind when you think of Georgette?

[Nathaniel] Anne’s sister… Stubborn… Addictive. That’s four words, but you’ll simply have to forgive me. In truth, a thousand words would not be sufficient to explain the minor miracle that is Lady Georgette.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you find most exasperating about her?

[Nathaniel] It’s her confounded desire to fix everyone. She undoubtedly means well, but there are some things that cannot be mended.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you could change one thing you’ve done in your life, what would it be?

[Nathaniel] I would not have trusted the scout’s reports before leading my men into the disastrous battle at Maubeuge, France. If not for that debacle, I would not find myself susceptible to a certain Member of Parliament’s blackmail and wouldn’t be tasked with seducing Georgette. The more I learn of her—her kindness, her vulnerability, her open heart—the more untenable I find my position. When I am with Georgette, I can indulge the fantasy that I might become a different sort of man. But if I am bound to ruin her, I must remain what I am—an unrepentant rake.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What’s one thing you won’t leave home without?

[Nathaniel] My wits. I do not routinely carry a weapon, having seen enough bloodshed to last a lifetime on the Continent. Though that is not to say I cannot acquit myself well if matters turn to violence.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t charming the ladies?

[Nathaniel] When I cannot lay aside the shadows that gather on my soul, I enjoy listening to my sister Caroline play the pianoforte. I’m not musically inclined, but her melodies never fail to sooth me.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you share your dreams for the future in five words or less.

[Nathaniel] Something other than my present.

I am on the horns of a dilemma. I must ruin Georgette or my family will be engulfed in scandal. Yet the idea of harming that delicate creature offends even my debauched spirit. There is not enough wine, not enough laudanum in the world, to make me easy with my impossible choice.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!

[Nathaniel] No, thank you, my dear. You’ve been a charming hostess and I’ve been . . . well, myself. I should try not to let my dark humors get the best of me. You see, my authors assure me it all turns out well in the end.

Oh, one last thing! If you would be so kind, dear reader, as to leave a comment or question for me, you will be entered in a random drawing for Waking Up with a Rake—the story of my friend Rhys Warrington and the young lady he was sent to remove from royal consideration. USA/Canada only. My author Mia Marlowe will also offer winner’s choice of one of her Rock*It Read ebooks. Open Internationally.

About the book:

For King and Country, Three Notorious Rakes Will Put All Their Seductive Skills to Work.

After All, The Fate of England’s Monarchy is in Their Hands.

Since the death of his fiancée, Nathaniel Colton’s polished boots have rested beneath the beds of countless wayward wives and widows of the ton. He’s careful to leave each lady smiling, and equally careful to guard his heart. So seducing Lady Georgette should pose no problem. But the beautiful reformist is no easy conquest, and Nate’s considerable charm fails to entice Georgette to his bed. To woo her, Nate will have to make her believe he cares about someone besides himself–and no one is more surprised than Nate when he realizes he actually does.

Interview with Seleste Delaney, Author of Gaming for Keeps

Please give a warm welcome to Seleste Delaney! She’s visiting the virtual offices to chat about Gaming for Keeps.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.

[Seleste Delaney] Wickedly evil purveyor of pages both romantic and not. Madly swimming through the insanity of life. Loud, irreverent, & periodically NSFW.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Gaming for Keeps?

[Seleste Delaney] This is the official blurb:

Pen Holloway’s done with men—in real life. Guys in game are so much less drama. But when her partner from Heroes of Fallen Gods invites her to the convention of the year, she panics. What if he’s another jerk? What if he’s not?

Cal Burrows is living his dream of being a spy. One of TRAIT’s misfit spies, but still a spy. It’s the perfect job… until an arms dealer with a taste for blood invades his not-so-secret geek haven. All Cal wanted from ConDamned was to meet his on-line girl. Now, with the threat of mass murder looming, he’s forced to choose between keeping his mission a secret and protecting the girl of his dreams.

Despite their attraction, Pen can’t help but suspect Cal’s hiding something. She also can’t shake the feeling he’s not as much of a stranger as he seems.

Basically, it’s the story of two people whose lives never would have intersected if not for gaming. And it takes place at one of those “we love everything geeky” cons that I LOVE, and it has more pop culture references than I could count. I had so much fun writing this book, that even after reading it about a dozen times through writing, revising, and all the editing stages, I still get bouncy about it.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Seleste Delaney] It started with Entangled putting out the call for Geek books. I’d been wanting to write a book about my friends from back in my EverQuest days. This seemed the perfect opportunity. I was able to meet one of my in-game “boyfriends” a couple years ago, and though nothing happened, the chemistry we had while playing actually translated into real life and I found that fascinating. That partnered with my love of mayhem gave birth to the idea of the TRAIT agents and their strange paths to love.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Pen?

[Seleste Delaney] Cute, loyal, geeky <3

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If Cal had a theme song, what would it be?

[Seleste Delaney] I will admit to cheating on this. I ran to my playlist for this book and went through the songs. And the winner is…*drumroll*… “Superman Tonight” by Bon Jovi.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Name one thing Pen is never without.

[Seleste Delaney] A book. She’s an avid reader and works at a library, so it stands to reason whether digital or print, she’d always have something on her to read.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things will you never find in Cal’s bedroom?

[Seleste Delaney] 1)   Weapons—with his history, it’s too big a risk to have them close at hand

2)   Exercise equipment—as dedicated as he is to staying fit for his job, his bedroom is his sanctuary from that

3)   A high-maintenance woman—uh…self-explanatory

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Pen’s greatest regret?

[Seleste Delaney] Probably staying with her ex for as long as she did. She wouldn’t regret dating him because it was part of the path to where she wound up in life, but she would probably regret staying in the relationship because she feels like she let him take advantage of her loyalty.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

[Seleste Delaney] I am all over the internet. You can find me on my website (it’s getting a makeover soon—this is just the placeholder site), blog, Twitter, Pinterest, and multiple places on Facebook (Page, Profile, and my new street team, The Renegades). And I love talking to readers, so please stop by and chat me up!

Thanks so much for having me, and I’ll be around off and on all day if anyone wants to ask questions or tell me which games I should absolutely avoid because they will suck all the time I should be using to write more books 😉

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Thank you!
