He smelled her before he saw her, that sweet, spicy aroma that appealed to those of his kind. His tongue tingled at the thought of the warm blood flowing down his throat. He moved as the anticipation of his next meal caused him to draw near. The uncontrollable thirst beat at him as he watched the girl, alone, walk towards her car in the empty parking lot. He chuckled to himself. He had heard many of the Day Walkers’ stories speaking of how unsettling and creepy, he believed their exact words were, Ame Academy’s parking lot was after dark. This was especially true of the Day Walkers’ lot, which was the furthest one from the school, made so to prohibit after hour attendance, unless of course you attended night school. But they came, those foolish Day Walkers who wanted the thrill, the rush, to say that they had dared to break the rule.

He chuckled again as he moved closer. So they came and usually there were no occurrences. But every once in a while, the school would have to report a disappearance, sadly, a tragedy where one of Kincaid, Texas’s most hallowed young ones would meet with an unexpected and violent end.

Interview with Michelle Cornwell-Jordan, Author of Night School

Michelle Cronwell-Jordan is the author of Night School, the kick-off for her YA paranormal series.  Michelle dropped by the virtual offices for a chat about her writing and her books.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Describe yourself in 140 characters or less.

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] I believe I am kind, courteous, helpful…at least I strive to be:)

I also believe I am adventurous, sometimes on the verge of reckless!

(Was that 140 characters???)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] Can you tell us a little about Night School?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] This is a story about a 16 year old girl whose parents have disappeared and she is left to watch out for her younger brother. They are sent to a residential school. There Dasheen learns that Vampires are real and that she is a hunter. Before she has a chance to get used to this, she is thrown into a battle to save her brother and the others she cares for.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How did you come up with the concept and the characters for the story?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] I love paranormal stories and personally I had not seen an old fashioned, vamps are bad and so there is a butt kicking slayer to save the day…not since Buffy The Vampire Slayer(which I loved;)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three words best describe Dasheen?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] Loyal, Courageous, Persistent

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are three things Dasheen would never have in her room?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] She would never have anything Pink.

Everything else is fine:)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is Dasheen’s single most prized possession?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] A fossilized arrow head encircled in a Silver wire, that Dasheen wears as a necklace. This keepsake was left to Dasheen by her mother before she disappeared, when Dasheen was very young.

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What are your greatest creative influences?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] Children/Teens

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What three things do you need in order to write?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] Solitude

Gummy Bears:)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What is the last book that you read that knocked your socks off?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] Twilight series

[Manga Maniac Cafe] If you had to pick one book that turned you on to reading, which would it be?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] Judy Blume books

[Manga Maniac Cafe] What do you like to do when you aren’t writing?

[Michelle Cronwell-Jordan] Reading:)

[Manga Maniac Cafe] How can readers connect with you?

Waiting on Wednesday–Furious by Jill Wolfson

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Oh, look! A new twist on Greek mythology.  The Furies seem to be popular right now, and I’m curious to see what Furious by Jill Wolfson is all about.  In stores April 2013

Three high school girls become the avenging Furies of Greek legend.

We were only three angry girls, to begin with. Alix, the hot-tempered surfer chick; Stephanie, the tree-hugging activist; and me, Meg, the quiet foster kid, the one who never quite fit in. We hardly knew each other, but each of us nurtured a burning anger: at the jerks in our class, at our disappointing parents, at the whole flawed, unjust world.

We were only three angry girls, simmering uselessly in our ocean-side California town, until one day a mysterious, beautiful classmate named Ambrosia taught us what else we could be: Powerful. Deadly. Furious.
