The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–October 27th Edition

Wow, it’s almost Halloween!  Which means it’s almost Thanksgiving, and then it’s time for the holidays!  I am totally geeked for December – in addition to being my birth month, we are packing our bags and going to my favorite vacation spot – Disney World!  Despite being the most expensive place on Earth, both Dean and I enjoy aimlessly strolling around EPCOT, snacking on Mickey Bars, and trying out the many delicious restaurants.  I can hardly wait to get there!  This is the first time we will be visiting in December; we usually go over Thanksgiving weekend.  I’m curious to see what the crowds are like.

Do you have travel plans this winter? Where are you going?  And are you planning any Halloween festivities?  I’ll be hanging out at home, trying to keep the puppers from barking their fool little heads off at all of the little trick or treaters.

On an administrative note: Feedburner hasn’t been sending my daily emails to subscribers for almost a month, so I am researching alternatives.  If you have any suggestions, please let me know!  I tried Feedcat, but had several problems with it, so that has been crossed off my list.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–OKC Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I am jetting back home after a fun week in OKC.  Elle and Sarah had a good show.  They didn’t place high in the ribbons, but they had steady classes.  Elle was one of the youngest horses in her classes, and Sarah had only shown her at one other show during the summer, so I am looking forward to seeing them together next year.  Yup, Sarah asked if she could lease her again next show season, and because I am still struggling a little with Pixie, I agreed to let her take the point again.  After a winter of getting to know Elle better, they should have more solid performances.  I’m very excited for next show season!

I didn’t bring my camera, so I don’t have any pictures, but I do have a video that I will try to load up next week.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–Vacation Edition!

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

We made it to OKC!  Friday was a long, long day (didn’t get to our hotel until 2am and had to be up again early!) but things have settled down and now I am just chilling, watching beautiful Morgan horses and reading.  Also enjoying the company of good friends.  Elle shows undersaddle tomorrow, and I am looking forward to seeing her and Sarah go.  Big classes and lots of competition for both of them.  Naturally, Elle chose the month of October to grow another couple of inches – like she wasn’t tall enough!!! – so she is a little awkward going with her rear a little higher than her withers.  She is now larger than Blondie, and Blondie was a big girl.

GAH!!! I leave for OKC next Friday, and I am so not ready to go!  The upcoming work week will be a challenge as I squeeze two weeks of work into one.  The only thing more stressful than flying is getting everything taken care of at work before I go on vacation!

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–It’s Almost October! Edition

Here’s an update for the past two weeks.  First, I can’t believe it’s almost October.  I leave for OKC and the Grand National Morgan Horse Show in a little less than two weeks.  I am so looking forward to relaxing while watching the best Morgan horses in the country that are showcased in the competition.

I took the puppers to a private training lesson last week.  Bumble was pulling me during our walks, and totally ignoring me.  Rachel showed me some things to try with him, and I was AMAZED at how quickly and how well they worked.  He still needs a lot of work, but when I took them to the park for our walkie, they were both much improved.  I am so excited to work on some of his other trouble areas, especially how he reacts to other dogs.  He gets so nervous and thinks that he has to protect his little pack from danger, and I don’t like him to be so stressed out.  They go back for another lesson after OKC, but in the meantime, I will continue to work on improving his walking habits, and both of their listening skills.  When I ask them to come to me, I need them to pay attention to me!  Do any of you have problem areas with your dogs that you’d like to work on?

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–September 15th Edition

Last week wasn’t one of my better ones.  Trusty DTE once again had power lines come down during a storm, and we didn’t have power part of the week.  Better yet, I had appointments scheduled, so I got to meet people without the benefit of a shower.  Ugh!  If DTE would spend some of the billions they make gouging us on energy costs and trim a few trees once in a while, maybe we wouldn’t have to suffer through outages several times a year.  Since we are on a well, when there is no power, we have no water.  I don’t even want to think about the food I had to toss, because I didn’t trust it after being in the fridge for two days with no electricitySad smile

Hope you had a better week!  As least I got some awesome books to make the bad memories of getting ready for work by Kindle light a fading memory.

Yesterday was my niece’s 8th birthday party.  Happy birthday, kiddo! Hope you enjoy all of your gifts!  She is into American Girl right now; I think they are kind of creepy looking dolls, so I gave her some books about spies.  She can even make her own DNA with the spy kit I found, so when she gets bored changing her doll’s shoes, she can dabble into scientific experiments.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–Another Month Over Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

ZOMG! I can’t believe that summer is over.  While I’m happy to have an extra day off this weekend, I am starting to dread the idea of winter.  Ugh! I just started enjoying walkies with the puppers, and the thought of slipping and sliding around on the snow and ice is just not appealing to me.

Speaking of the puppies, when we got back from our walkie on Thursday, Dean noticed that Bumble’s eyes looked funny.  When I looked, I. FREAKED. OUT!  His little face was getting more swollen by the second, and naturally our regular vet had just closed, and I didn’t have any Benadryl in the house.  I ALWAYS have Benadryl in the house.  I raced him over to the snazzy new animal ER that just opened near us, and after a shot of steroids and Benadryl, his face started to get back to normal.  We had a rough night because of the steroid shot (thanks for mentioning that it would make him have to pee every 10 minutes, NOT) but he was all back to himself by Saturday AM.  Or maybe prior, and it took until Saturday for me to get back into sorts.

The vet is pretty certain that he was bitten by a bug, and he had a reaction to that.  Now I have to make sure I have Benadryl in the house, because if he is bitten again, the reactions will keep getting worse.  Wonderful.  Poor guy!  Who would have thought a quick spin around the park would end up giving Bumble a pumpkin face and costing me 200 bucks to get it back to normal?  Not ME!  I am very, very glad that he’s okay! (It’s my wallet that is sobbing)
