The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves

It finally cooled off!  I was able to take the puppers for a walkie, which they really enjoy.

Yesterday, I discovered a strange dog in the front yard, in the pouring rain.  I didn’t know what to do with him!  His collar didn’t have any contact info, and he seemed like a nice enough fellow, so when he followed me into the garage, I snapped a leash on his collar, grabbed an umbrella, and took a walk around the neighborhood to see if I could find out where he lived (in my pjs!! – that tells you how much I love dogs!)

The first person I ran into didn’t know the dog, but he told me to hang on a second because his wife would.  Sure enough, she must be the resident dog whisperer because she knew the dog’s name, Oscar, and that he lived across the street from me.  Ironically enough, the neighbors across the street have bushes all along their fence line, so while I knew they had a dog, I didn’t know what it looked like.  Now I do.  They were very happy to see Oscar and were heading out to look for him.  A repairman left their back gate open, and that’s how he got out.  That was the extent of excitement for my week.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–Puppy Update!

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

Last week was ridiculously hot in Michigan and other parts of the country.  It was so hot, all normal activities ground to a halt.  No riding or walking of pups, nope, not here.  The promised cooler temps didn’t arrive yesterday, either – though I guess 88 is an improvement of 92.  Here are some pictures of the pups, who have been crazy because they were only allowed outside to take care of business, and even that left them overheated.

This is how Bumble decided to spend his Saturday.  He settled down under my chair with a chew toy for some quiet time.

This is how Poppy spent her Saturday.  She repeatedly plotted to steal her brother’s toy away, because she is an evil demoness.

She, of course, does not look like one, and constantly gave me her polished doe-eyed innocent look.  I can’t believe that when they were at the shelter, numerous people called about her, yet not one person called about the sweetest little boy ever!  If I hadn’t gotten there first, some poor family would be battling the Demon Queen, instead of Dean and myself.  We have had plenty of experience with trickster canines, so we always ward off her clever tricks.  Unless she unleashes the too cute for words look.  Then, even we are goners.

Poor Bumble, wondering why, why, why his evil little sister constantly messes with him and his toys.  It’s hard to be a lover, and no matter how many times she jumps on him, bites his ears, grabs his neck, and steal his toys, he rarely gets upset with her.  That is true love.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–July14th Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I had kind of a boring week, so I’ll share some horses pix.  There was a show in Pennsylvania 4th of July weekend.  While most of the barn went, I decided to stay home.  Everyone did very well, and this show both Elle’s mom and dad showed, which hasn’t happened since I got her, so here are pix of them.  All pix by Terry Young.

This is DeeDee.  She shows in the Hunter division.  She is a fairly big mare, which is where Elle gets some of her size.  See all the puddles?  This is one of the only outside shows we are doing this year, and I didn’t want to show in the mud.  It always rains at this show.  So, yeah, I’m a wimp.  DeeDee won this class, BTW.

This is Giz and Sarah.  Gizmo is Elle’s daddy.  He shows in the Park division, both in harness and under saddle.

This is Gizmo and Sarah again, after winning the Park Saddle Championship.  There had been a torrential downpour just prior; look at the mud on his back legs.  So glad I ‘m not the one who had to clean him up!

Bonus photo – This is Steve and Elsa.  Steve is my favorite lesson horse.  Elsa is leasing him this summer to show in the English Pleasure division.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–Long Weekend Edition

If you are in the States, I hope you had a wonderful 4th.  We didn’t do much, which was fine by me.  I did take the pups for their first walks through our neighborhood, and later in the day, they chased sticks and balls in the yard.  We don’t have a fence, so I had to keep them on a lead, but they had fun anyway.  Bonus for me – they slept for a couple hours after. Yay!

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–June 30th Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I’ve had a busy week!  I attended a fund raiser for the Susan G Koman 3 Day – several of my friends are participating this year.  The fund raiser was at Mongolian BBQ, and I took one of my nieces and a co-worker. We nommed on stir-fry and then ordered several desserts to give them a try.  The tuxedo cheese cake is the best, followed by the deep-fried Oreos.

Yesterday I had grad party to attend.  Audie, who is part of my horse show  family, graduated from high school.  I am so proud of her, but I’m also sad to think she’ll be headed off to college in the fall.

In between the social events, my coffee maker died (on Monday morning – what a terrible way to start the week!) , and then I dropped a bone on  Bumble’s food dish and broke it into a billion pieces.

I’m looking forward to the long weekend.  If you are in the States, I hope you have a great 4th of July!

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–June 23rd Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I’ve been busy catching up from my mini vacation last week, so I didn’t get to do much (including reading) other than work.  Sad face.  I did take Bumble to the park yesterday.  He hurt himself slipping on the kitchen floor a couple weeks ago, and after a trip to the vet, he is allowed to go on controlled leash walks.  It was hot and humid, but he really enjoyed himself.  He was given a fright when some bikers popped out of trail onto the walking path, but otherwise, he wasn’t phased by much.  It was his first time to the park.

Poppy gets to participate in a puppy play date today; I will be glad when Bumble can go again, because keeping him quiet isn’t easy.  They are both little bundles of energy, and the visits with their canine buddies settles them right down – for about two days!  Hopefully he can go next time.

Logitech Wireless Mouse M310 (Blue Shards) – I got tired of the cord for my old mouse getting in the way all the time, so I bought a wireless one.  This one is kind of clunky – I’m not sure that I like it, which is what happens when you purchase something based on the color instead of performance.  Still on the fence about it.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–June 16th Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

Had fun a the show and we are heading home today.  I missed the puppers, so I’ll be happy to get back.  Elle was the Reserve Park Saddle Champion (the trainer rode her), and I need to figure Pixie out.  Our best finish was 5th, but the last class was our best, IMHO.  She hits the ring and gets so wound up the first direction, so I need to hold her back better.  We are better the second way of the ring, so I’m sure that after a few more shows, we’ll do better.  This was only our second show, and I already feel more comfortable with her than I ever did with Blondie, so I’m very optimistic that after a few more miles in the saddle, she (and me, by extension) will settle right down.  It’s so exciting having a horse that wants to show, so I’m looking forward to more.

I hope all of you are having a wonderful weekend!

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–June 9th Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I’m on vacation most of next week, so I’m scrambling to get caught up at work and on the blog before heading to Columbus for Morgan Gold Cup.  I hurt my back last week, so I don’t know if I’m going to be able to ride, or if I’ll have to ask my friend Laurie to help me out and show Pixie.  Elle might be staying home – haven’t decided yet what to do.  Either way, I’m still looking forward to a few days off work and having some fun with my horsey family.

On a happier note, we are supposed to have a short puppy play date this afternoon.  It’s always enjoyable watching the pups running around like crazy things.
