The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–December is Here!

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I can’t believe that it’s DECEMBER!!  The year flew by!  I’m excited for our trip to Disney World later this month, and I love the holidays, so 2014 will be here before I can blink.

I spent the weekend hanging out with Dean and the puppers.  We had a lovely Thanksgiving meal at Mitchell’s (no puppers allowed!).  Dean went all traditional with the turkey, while I enjoyed scallops and shrimp.  It was a wonderful meal, then I went to Kohl’s to check out the sales.  I won’t be doing that again any time soon.  I did pick up a few pairs of jeans, but the sales weren’t anything special, and the lines were ridiculously long.  The only Black Friday shopping we did was at PetSmart – the deals there were much better, and so were the lines!  Stocked up on treats for the dogs, and got them a new pillow for the family room.  They like it so much I wish I had bought one for the kitchen, too.  Maybe during the New Year’s sales?

It was actually in the 40’s yesterday, so we hit the park for a walkie.  I hope today is as nice, though the forecast is not as positive.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving if you celebrate it!  What did you do on Turkey Day?

I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is next week! This year we are heading to Mitchell’s Fish Market for an early dinner (they are serving a special turkey dinner in addition to their regular menu – I am planning on ordering scallops because I don’t like turkey), and then I hope to hibernate for the rest of long weekend and read.  I hope you all have a wonderful week!

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–November 17th Edition

We had a quiet week for a change.  Thankfully!  The new furnace works like a charm, though the vacuum had an unfortunate incident and will have to be replaced soon.  Any suggestions?  I have a Dyson and I’m not happy with it – though it is 13 years old, and it has lasted longer than any other vacuum cleaner we’ve ever had.

Severe weather is threatening part of the country, including Metro Detroit,  today, so take care!  I’m just bummed that it’s going to be 60 degrees, but the thunderstorms will keep us inside today.  Dang!

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–November 10th Edition

Last week was challenging, to say the least.  The past few weeks have kind of sucked.  There was the doctor appt from Hell, which I don’t even want to dwell upon – though receiving the bill yesterday for a test the doctor didn’t even have time to discuss grates on my nerves.

The furnace has been replaced.  What a noisy endeavor that was!  All of that clanging and banging! The puppers were beside themselves with the strangers in the house and all of the commotion.  They collapsed in exhaustion right after the installers left and didn’t get up again until the next morning.

I love having heat again, but I was not happy with the servicemen.  They forgot to relight the pilot on the hot water tank.  That was an unpleasant discovery at 4:30 the next morning.  I would never survive any sort of apocalypse – the loss of coffee, hot water, and access to the internet would kill me.  Anyway, Dean finally got the stupid pilot to relight after fooling around with it for – oh – about an hour.  Grrrr.

I was able to read 3 novellas during the furnace install, and this weekend I’m going to start reading through some of the holiday stories I have received.  It’s chilly outside, I have a functioning furnace, and yippy, I have a full can of coffee and Pumpkin Spice creamer so I’m all set for a weekend of Christmas themed stories.  I also have to finish up The Lair, which I am enjoying, but after the 50% mark, the pacing has become uneven.  Hoping for a strong finish.

What are you reading this weekend?

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves-November 3rd Edition

Ugh!  Had a very challenging week.  To get things kicked off, we got the unpleasant news that we need to purchase a new furnace.  The heat exchanger on our current unit is broken, and it’s not cost effective to replace it.  The furnace is 22 years old, and we’ve made it limp along for a few winters, but I’m really bummed that we finally have to make this expensive purchase.  Ouch.  I was referred to a furnace guy from a co-worker, and after I decide which features we absolutely have to have, I’ll give him the go ahead to replace the old furnace.  Space heaters are keeping things toasty for now, and I expect to have everything installed in the next week or two. Good thing it’s not supposed to get too cold before then. UGH!

I had an asthma check that was so bad I don’t even want to think about it.  Suffice it to say – the doctor’s office has some serious issues.  They forgot I was in the room waiting for a flu shot and the doctor to go over the test results with me.  He was stuck in the room next door with a very loud, very talkative patient who wouldn’t let him leave the room.  At least I was able to read, uninterrupted, for a while, but – REALLY?!

Friday I woke up to – no power! Again!  What a crappy start to the day.  Things have been very busy at work; I’m working on insurance renewals, month end, and still catching up from vacation.  Having to head off in the darkness, without a refreshing shower, pretty much ruined the whole day.  What was most annoying about it?  Only about 10 houses on the block didn’t have power.  Everyone else – business as usual!

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–October 27th Edition

Wow, it’s almost Halloween!  Which means it’s almost Thanksgiving, and then it’s time for the holidays!  I am totally geeked for December – in addition to being my birth month, we are packing our bags and going to my favorite vacation spot – Disney World!  Despite being the most expensive place on Earth, both Dean and I enjoy aimlessly strolling around EPCOT, snacking on Mickey Bars, and trying out the many delicious restaurants.  I can hardly wait to get there!  This is the first time we will be visiting in December; we usually go over Thanksgiving weekend.  I’m curious to see what the crowds are like.

Do you have travel plans this winter? Where are you going?  And are you planning any Halloween festivities?  I’ll be hanging out at home, trying to keep the puppers from barking their fool little heads off at all of the little trick or treaters.

On an administrative note: Feedburner hasn’t been sending my daily emails to subscribers for almost a month, so I am researching alternatives.  If you have any suggestions, please let me know!  I tried Feedcat, but had several problems with it, so that has been crossed off my list.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–OKC Edition

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

I am jetting back home after a fun week in OKC.  Elle and Sarah had a good show.  They didn’t place high in the ribbons, but they had steady classes.  Elle was one of the youngest horses in her classes, and Sarah had only shown her at one other show during the summer, so I am looking forward to seeing them together next year.  Yup, Sarah asked if she could lease her again next show season, and because I am still struggling a little with Pixie, I agreed to let her take the point again.  After a winter of getting to know Elle better, they should have more solid performances.  I’m very excited for next show season!

I didn’t bring my camera, so I don’t have any pictures, but I do have a video that I will try to load up next week.

The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves–Vacation Edition!

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba of The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  This is a weekly meme where we can share news of the week and highlight new books received.

We made it to OKC!  Friday was a long, long day (didn’t get to our hotel until 2am and had to be up again early!) but things have settled down and now I am just chilling, watching beautiful Morgan horses and reading.  Also enjoying the company of good friends.  Elle shows undersaddle tomorrow, and I am looking forward to seeing her and Sarah go.  Big classes and lots of competition for both of them.  Naturally, Elle chose the month of October to grow another couple of inches – like she wasn’t tall enough!!! – so she is a little awkward going with her rear a little higher than her withers.  She is now larger than Blondie, and Blondie was a big girl.
